• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Steering stops

Hi guys. I just got back from riding in Utah. I had a hard crash on a rocky downhill. I tore the steering stops off of the steering head. Can someone measure the welded stops and post a picture please. I am going to have to fab or have them fabricated.

It is just one block of steel welded to the neck. It is about a half inch by 3/4 x 11/16 centered at the bottom of the head.

The 11/16ths is the stop to stop dimension. The other dimensions can vary quite a bit and still work, being bigger is better.

Hope you are OK, got pics?

Yep they got pics. It was the roughest rocky downhill I have run across. I came to a sharp 90 degree turn and hit the rear brake to slow. The rear locked and I speed up. I hit a large boulder on my right which sent me to left. I hit a larger boulder straight on. The forks took the blow but the rear was unhappy. I flew off the edge and landed forks first. My left townsend knee brace took a blow so hard I have a bruise the same shape as the carbon fiber brace. I think it saved a broken femur. My helmet hit a rock as I came to rest in the bushes.

Our bikes are tough. It took a licking and kept on ticking.

Thank you for the photos. It tore both stops off.

Everyone please wear safety gear. You never know when it is going to happen. Ride safe.

Glad to hear you are awright. Yep, they seem to be tough bikes.

There is only one stop. That is just different views. The single block is pointing dead forward, and the tripple clamp lugs hit on both sides of the single block. That is where the 11/16ths dimension may be fussy. I you want more turning radius, you could make this smaller. This shot is from the front,
Did the aluminum stop on the tripple clamp break also?

Yep, i can confirm the above. Just one stop, which i also sheered off during my tank slapper get off last month. Baddrapp, glad to hear you're okay and sporting the right gear for the occasion. I agree, these bikes can take a pretty good beating. Which is just as well, csuse they sure ain't light!

I got it all fabricated. Just have to tack it up then burn it in. I will find out if its 4130 or mild tomorrow.

I mig it with preheat. I got full penetration. It took a little work to clean up the race cup. It is a weird alloy. It didn't weld like 4130 or 1020 mild. No i know why the stock piece tore off at the weld. The stocker was tig welded.
