• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Stupid questions or not..?? Husky 650 Intermittent Stopping

ok can we start with gathering some data on the ECU system:

Who manufactures the ECU, is it www.magnetimarelli.com?
Does anyone know how to interface with it?
Surely with the Husky factory now defunked (with many jobs lost) there must be someone from the factory that knows about this and is willing to share (I'm willing to pay) their knowledge with us...hello can anyone help??, we may also need someone fluent in Italian?

Hi all, Newbie here from the Flatlands (Holland) now living in Krautland (Yep, that'll be next door Germany then)

Just did the Eruption mod (Thanks Run-it !! ) to my wife's Strada. Runs fine now. Haven't ridden it yet though.

On the subject of FI there is also MegaSquirt (DIY fuel injection) and they run a product called MicroSquirt that is apparantly suited for bikes.
I had the MegaSquirt system on a V8 Range Rover and it worked a charm. Switchable maps too !
Anyone interested take a look here: [urlhttp://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/microsquirt-engine-management-system-30-wiring-harness-p-131.html[/url]
It looks like it's a similar thing to the Power Commander.

Regards, Ard

I'm breaking-in my Terra. I drove it from the Port to my home, from km0 on the clock until the km 400 getting to my place.

I recieved it knock-down, so I assambled it with a friend.
I found that the refrigerant deposit lid was missing, I place one from the KLR, and put arround a liter of coolant.
I drove it slowly, less than 4000 rpm to break it, I enjoy it a lot (around 7 months without a bike).
I'm planning a short way this week and then change the oil, afterwards i'll put some accesories. What happens if i open the oil level needle while engine is running?
I'd like to know about the do's and dont's of this bike for the first 1000km

Wow. That took a long time to arrive. Wasn't it being shipped to you around Nov '13 ?

To the guys with the stalling issue....did the stalling show up right away or did it take a while? There's two new Terra's down the rd from me new. The dealer said I could take them for a test ride. The dealer also told me that in thier experience that the bike either stalls or it doesn't and that not all bikes suffer from the stalling. Only a few. I go back and forth daily on picking up the bike

It's not as simple as the dealer wants you to believe. My strada didn't stall for quite some time. Then suddenly it did once. I have since experienced only a couple handfuls of stalls in my 2000+ miles of ownership. There are many factors involved, including the rider's driving style, making the behavior different for everyone and not necessarily only bike dependent.

Did anyone try to reset the system like I did?

I`m very pleased with the result.

One reason for the problems can be starting with open throttle. Don´t touch the trottle while starting.

I think that the collective experiences of owners both on this forum and advrider is that the bike either stalls, or it doesn't. Mine did. Usually from a standing start, not necessarily just after starting, and also it stalled a couple of times rolling downhill on a hot engine with the clutch disengaged.
When I first bought mine, and I heard that some people had issues similar to mine, and some didn't I used to think that perhaps it was a rider behaviour, like the riders who weren't stalling were just giving the bike more throttle than those who were, but there is no way for this to account for the bike stalling when rolling with a closed throttle and the clutch disengaged.

Maybe you can fix the problem yourself by resetting the injection/throttle system.

It´s known troubleshooting with the beamer.

- disconnect the battery an leave it disconnected for minimum half an hour
- reconnect the battery
- turn the ignition key, but don´t start the engine!!!
- wait about 5 seconds, only the neutral light shall be on (and maybe the abs light flashing)
- now slowly turn and turn back the throttle 3 times
- ignition off
- wait a few seconds, minimum 5 seconds, more is harmless
- now ignition on, wait 5 seconds and start the engine

Never turn the throttle while starting!!! This will cause an error in the injektion system!!!

I did this procedure yesterday on my Terra. After that it feels like a new bike

Maybe some dealers did not do so after they connected the battery for delivery?

Not sure if there is any link to BMW 650 and TR650 (I think they run different EFI) but I took the time to run the procedure and it seemed better in closed loop and a bit better in open loop with the Eruption mod.
I still have less than 300 mi. on the bike so every day is still different

I am Italian, but I have not figured out what you need.

Hi megatiker75

in a perfect world......I would like someone from the factory to comment and try and help us sort out this issue. Advise on how to interface with the ECU would be good so we can make some adjustments.........I did say "perfect world", am I to hopeful....?

Hello, the world will never be perfect, but we can try to improve it;)
However, once again, I did not understand what problem do you have?

Here is my first post, can you help with question 2. please?
Like many of you, my 650 Terra stops on me, usually just off idle and usually when I am coasting through and intersection, and it gets bloody dangerous!

I see there are many different types of aftermarket gizmos and mods to overcome this problem, but (correct me if I am wrong) they stuff up the dash temp reading.

My question, 1. Why hasn't Husky/ BMW not released a MAP update or given the dealers a tool so they can tune this problem out, like they can with the all the off-road Huskys?

My question, 2. Is there not someone who can tweak the factory map and resolve this issue?
