    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Suitable oil for premix in a 430

Hello everybody
I am looking to choose a new oil for my '87 430. I can get hold of several brands easily so I would like any advice. I intend to keep running at 32:1 mixture as it is already jetted for this.
My understanding is that I should look for an oil that reads 'JASO FD' or better in it's sprcifications.

Motul - readily available to me
Castrol - previously used TTS Extra with good results without problems. I have been told that it has been rebranded as 'Power 1' - is this correct?
Ipone - made in France but new to me
Belray - need I say more

There are other brands that I can get - just a problem making the time.

Maybe my question should be - are there any oils that I should steer clear of ??

All of the oils you listed are fine. Choose the one that makes you feel warm and fuzzy and ride off into the sunset.
 
On Friday I made the time to visit a friend at a local off-road repair shop here in Christchurch. The owner, Linton, at Dirt Action Cycles' is a 'Europhile' from years ago and he still rides when he gets the chance.
We had a bit of a chat and he enlightened me about various oils.

He told me that ,yes, all the above brands are very good for our vintage of bikes but - DON'T GET THE WRONG GRADE. Apparently some of the grades are so advanced that they are actually not suitable for our riding styles. We need an oil with a medium or intermediate volatility level - oils advertised with high levels are not good. Very high volatility levels require very hot engines that are at full revs all the time to burn the oil completely - our bike will never get that hot. Our engines will not burn off all the oil and so the system will eventually become gunged-up inside.

Many many years ago I used Rockoil products - until they seemed to become scarce on my local scene. Linton is now stoking the current product lineup so I settled on Rockoil K2.
If a shop owner / mechanic / rider recommends a certain product AND can explain why - then that is good enough for me.
