• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Suomy vs. Vemar review (detailed w/ pics)

this is always a pain to do and the more you do it the less good they fit. I dont take them out any more. I simple green or other mild cleaner spray the inside, wipe it around really good and garden hose the helmet out intact. Then put the helmet in front of the forced air heater and I;m done. Works great, it is clean and I dont have to take it apart.

Are you saying you hose down the inside of the helmet with water?

I might start trying something like that. It's so hot here lots of days, my helmets gets soaked inside with sweat inside yr round.

This stuff here works pretty good for odors if nothing else.

Suomy is a very good product, they all are (Italian made helmets), but for me
VEtroresine MARemmane would be my choice or if you want a ultra light Italian made helmet try AIROH

I'm with Robert, both are good helmets. Italians make good helmets. I've been wearing a Vemar VRX7, the predecessor of the VRX9.
It's a fine helmet, about a +1 lb lighter than my previous Arai helmet. The fit is excellent and it came with a spare liner.

To me, how a helmet vents and keeps my head cool is a major consideration.
I wish my VRX7 was vented better, that's my only complaint. Works good, but could be better. I think the VRX9 is much improved in this area. An Airoh would be my other choice.

Both of these helmets should have MAJOR venting. They both have DEEP air channels above your head, with intakes and exhausts placed so they actually should function.

As for washing any helmet... I don't take the liners out often, as they all do become loose over time. Perhaps once a year. I hand wash them. I hit the shell with a hose and soap, let all of it dry on its own time, then reassemble several days later. It's always worked perfect.

Of note: The best way to keep helmets from wearing out is to own a bunch of helmets, and wear them all. If your wife isn't real sharp, she my fall for that....

I have a Bell moto 9, Airoh stelt, and a Thor. Airoh is the lightest, but the least comfortable. All of them I throw the liners in the washing machine with my clothes and lay them out to air dry. No problems so far

After my son tried the Suomy,he was sold...I had to try it myself(it's good we both wear the same lid size)DAMN! the lightweight is ridiculous, the eye port opening actual has great visibility and my Spy's are actually fitting on my face properly! I have been an avid Arai owner but I've shelved it for the Suomy. If you live in stink-bug hot, humid weather like I do(here in Florida) the cooling is second to none...If you ride cool/cold climates, you might have to stuff some foam in the ports to slow the air flow(or could just tape them closed). As it is with every helmet,it's all about the shape of your head for great fitment, for me,the Suomy is great.I got both helmets from http://www.speedaddictcycles.com/

Best way to clean a helmet I have found is to take it into the shower and washer it out with shampoo and let it air dry. I am in the desert so air dry is like 3-4 hours.

I bet Motoz is liking this idea :)...

That technique opens up a lot of avenues ... Like, maybe you can get your wife\gf to join in ... Wearing only a helmet in the shower can be a good start for so many ...
