  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SUPER Unfortunate Husky Experience

Husqvarna
Hello Guys,

I have recently entered the Husky arena and ended up with some seriously bad luck to start off my experience. I have been directed to CafeHusky for more “Technical” support as I am currently a user on the SMJ site. I am going to post the link to my thread where you can read about my luck. Admin, if this is a big no-no then I will start copy-pasting my thread over here. Just let me know before you banish me.

I am currently waiting for my flywheel puller so I can split the cases and find out if this thing is worth rebuilding. If I do choose to rebuild, I am seriously thinking about going the 530 route. Any opinions on this? I want good reliability, I do not want to have to hassle with remapping (I’ll buy a JD tuner if need be but that is about as far as I am willing to go), I do not want to pour a bunch more money into for porting/cams/etc... (not sure if this is required with the 530). This bike will primarily be used on the street with a couple track days each year. It will also see about 10% offroad as I plan to put the Distanzia’s on.

Bad lower rod bearing. Word is they do not get enough oil and or some cheap our out of spec bearings found there way in some huskys. Not a common problem but not unheard of ether.

As for the 530 kit it is very good but also getting very hard to get in the US for some reason. Start looking now. If you can find one thats a good way to go. Might call a good shop like Halls or Up-tite and see if there is a way to modify the rod or something for more oil flow.

Good luck.

No problem with the font change Coffee.

Motosportz, I'm not exactly sure what went wrong. It could have been a number of issues. It looks to me like a tensile fracture in the piston caused by a bad forging (in the part that retains the wrist pin). I don't see any discoloration in the small end of the rod or on the wrist pin itself. If the wrist pin bearing were bad I would expect to see this. It is possible that I lost the bearing in the big end of the rod and then the piston would have kissed the valves (which happened), cocked the piston slightly sideways in the top of the cylinder (essentially getting stuck), then the rod pulling the wrist pin away from the piston....however I cannot see the bearing on the big end of the rod because I don't yet have a flywheel puller so I can't get the crank out.

Question for you.... Since your located so close to me I was wondering if you know of a good shop to take my head and crank. I will need to get the crank rebuilt and the valve seats machined by someone who knows what they are doing. Any recommendations???

Absolutely...

Ron is a great person and does amazing work. Had him do several cranks for me. Does precision work. Does not however have the space to do motors so you just need to bring him the actual parts to fix. If the head needs welded and then machined he can do the machining but probably not the welding. Call him and ask. Real nice guy.

Where are you located?

Albany, Oregon. I used to live and go to school in Portland and I still frequent the area....I'm going snowmobiling at Hood this weekend. Anyway, thanks for the contact :)

Maybe 1/4 second. Bike was still pulling hard. I wouldn't hold a bike at its limit. It probably took 2 second to get from 85 to 93. That would be fast if the bike was setup for dirt but it certainly shouldn't blow an engine on race bred supermoto bike....it should handle a short burst of speed.

hey just found out about this site, ive been on smj for a year now since i bought my bike, i have a 2010 smr450 and i have had nothing but clutch fade issues since day one and it took this long and talking to many people about the issue and i was able to finally get the dealer to replace everything with the clutch system. i just dont understand why the bike keeps doing it, and husky denies any knowledge of any case like this before "of course". i have also heard of a timing chain tensioner issue with the 450 engines and wasnt sure if it was true or not, i know the 610 had its issues but i wasnt sure about my engine, id greatly appreciate any info on either one of the issues with this gemb.

Yes, with the right gearing it should, but maybe you should not try it again!
