  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

    Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Switching from BR9EG to BR8ES??

I agree, 1 step hotter with the plug range shouldn't hurt anything, Iridium plugs are worth it, and the type of plug and heat range isn't causing the issue.
If you've been racing you need to check compression and ring gap. I like some bean oil too and was using Maxima 927, bike ran and smelled great, but too much spooge while woods riding. Just switched to Kotz Techniplate (my old fav) and spooge is reduced to just a dribble. Both @ 40:1.
There's a lot of confusion about rich/lean mixtures: more fuel=richer, so 40:1 is richer (and hotter) than 32:1.

I would start with basic Husky troubleshooting:
intake/reed block/carb boot air leaks;
also make sure you have a good seal on the Lectron, mine has to be pried a little forward before tightening the clamps;
crank seal? no water in oil;
strong spark? I still don't trust the late model digital setup;
check the plug cap and wire for damage and under the tank connections too.

Lectron carb is a really simple device, it should just work. If not, there's some other issue. I've seen a couple of folks blaming the Lectron without confirming good compression, fresh rings, no air leaks, etc.
I would put the Lectron back to stock settings, @ 51mm rod length, 1 turn out on the PJ, 1-1 1/2 out on the idle screw and see how the bike starts and runs and tune from there. Use fresh fuel, plug, filter, etc.

How did the bike run before the Lectron?

:confused:
