• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

SX and bouncing off the rev limiter

Simple...it sounds way freakin cool. SX events are all about entertainment.

Matter of opinion. I'm 19 and around the same age as a lot of riders coming up that are riding 250f's and I can say that I do not think it sounds cool panic revving the shit out of a bike in the air, whether your Eli Tomac or the average C rider at the local track, it still doesn't sound cool.

Ya you're right...but it sounds so cool!!!

As a side note: I'm selling the rev limiter off my 510 if anyone is interested. It's in perfect unused condition.
I've tried to use it a few times WFO on looong fire trails but I have to back off due to blurred vision and adrenaline overdose.
Let me know... Free shipping.

I'll trade you my powerband for your rev limiter.

I sat on the second row for practice at Atlanta right in the rhythm section and they were on the limiter. I think they hold it wide open and modulate with the clutch, motors get rebuilt maybe every race, win at all cost.

Motor's usually go at lest two races before getting "rebuilt". They get looked over each race but not rebuilt.

I get all that but these guys seem to never let off, seems like it is way more than it used to be.

hey motosportz, I have a txc130, I was looking on your site, and I only saw a few items. 3 shark fins protectors, some steering damper, and some tires. Do you have anything for the 310 sir?

I'm going to say it's a aggression thing. Also when they land they don't have a lot of room to accelerate so they hold it on, instead of trying to time the throttle perfectly with landing. If they don't get on the gas soon enough w as much as they are over the front of the bike, they will put their self in a awkward position where they land, get thrown forward then get on the gas and get thrown back. The way the are doing it, it's simply get over the front and hammer it!! Every time i get aggressive i do sort of the same thing, but i wait till i'm a little closer to landing. It's just easier and less moving around!

I think Bam Bam Barcia started a new Fad.. I heard Chad Reed goes through a set of clutches every race..!

I ride the same way (trails mostly) except I'm not wide open ... I set the engine RPM and control my ground speed with clutch feathering\dragging ... Its also how I get the power to stick to the ground .. And no, I do not burn out clutches or ever smell my clutch burning ... This is one technique where the hydo-clutches seem to have an edge on the cables ... I just put a couple pounds pressure on the lever and the bike responses to it ...

--

If a PRO rider on this level is doing this often for anything other than trying to get an edge, I'd be really surprised ... If the engine\powertrain can withstand it, they'll try anything ... Engines start blowing chunks, you'll see it stopped or any rider who continues to blow engines doing this will find a new job at burger king if he can't ride an entire race without blowing an engine ...

--

PS -- We all know 99.9% of the time the throttle needs to be ON when landing off a jump ... Thats the correct technique for MX racing and landing a bike in general ...

Sounds like a baby in a blender. It's just a 4 stroke thing, the power curve never really tapers off, so if they want max power they are naturally close to the limit. I think they are just too lazy to shift up a gear.
I like the 'SX events are all about entertainment' comment, maybe the riders think it's manly -I'm using all the power this thing can give me and I'm screaming for more...like a baby in a blender.
I really think it detracts from the sport.
Also, you know it's just entertainment when they don't enforce rules like passing on yellow flags and re-entering at or before the point of exit when leaving the track. I think the whole sport at the pro level anyway is just going down hill fast. Sorry to get off topic -just had to vent.
