• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Talk me out of buying a Terra in MA and riding it back to NC.....

Any chance you can share your source of info? Rumors are everywhere but seeing as you and I frequent the same dealer you are making me a little more nervous about waiting.

There will be no more Terra's/Strada's. If you wait, you might get a good deal on a used KLR. I hear there are alot of them out there.

ck.

About me:
Just returned to riding after a 20+ year layoff and the only road riding I've ever done is about 400 miles or so on my TE511. I've never ridden a bike this heavy and I've certainly never spent this much time in the saddle. While I may regret it I don't think I'll be buying the seat concepts seat in advance. I will be alone and don't really plan to do any off road riding at all and will even limit my forest service road usage to a minimum as I just don't want anything to go wrong in the wrong place.
What I'm really hoping to get out of this thread is possibly what to expect from the bike. There's a lot to sort out and I may even post over at advrider to get some more questions answered about routes and other things.

I forgot to mention, my wife flew to Boston, bought a Ural, and rode it home to NC while I was deployed a few years ago. She's a tough gal, but she had absolutely ZERO hack experience when she did it. In fact, she had only recently passed her MSF class. Trust me, hacks are much more difficult to pilot than two-wheelers, and she made it home safely, and did 95% of it on backroads and the Blue Ridge parkway.

To this day, that is one of her fondest memories. If you aren't a little scared to do the ride, then you won't have much fun. It's all about meeting challenges in life. That is where you find out who you really are.

thats awesome. got to love a gal not afraid of a little adversity.

Eurosport posted a pic today of the new owner and his Strada so it's definitely off the table. I'm still weighing my options. So who's going to tell my wife?

Don't worry about the bike. My friend Kevin left here several weeks ago with a brand new Terra, without enough miles for the first oil change, and has hit all the sights in Alaska, including Prudhoe bay, and is now on the way across Canada. He essentially broke in the engine on the way north. He's had ZERO issues with the bike now and has many thousand miles on it, running it all day every day for weeks. I'm sure lots of that is on less than hi test gas too.

Have you tried this dealer in CT? I believe they are a disgruntled former husky dealer with terra and strada inventory. They are clearly stating that there will be no dealer support after the sale. Don't know if that is even legal but if you do not care about dealer support in CT maybe a good deal to be had. Worth a call.

Spent the day at Eurosport, definitely no TRs there. Talked to Justin about them. He's got lots on order, and is trying to buy from other dealer to no avail. The TR is definitely a huge hit in NC, and I think it is safe to say that he's selling more than anyone in the country.

I did talk to a guy there who was very nice but said that he couldn't let me ride it off the lot because I'm not a CT resident. Apparently he can't issue a temp tag for out of state buyers. WTH?

That makes no sense. A temp tag for test rides should be a no-brainer. However, if you are buying it, you have to get the temp tag from your home state. Normally when you do a fly-and-ride, you just go to the NC DMV with the VIN and proof of insurance, and they issue a 30-day tag. You take that with you to buy the bike and ride it home on the NC temp tag. If it is a new bike, no inspection is needed, but you'll need to bring the bill of sale and money for the taxes to the DMV to get the permanent plate when the transaction is complete.

That stinks. I've not bought a bike in CT but have in several other states...never a problem. I'd look elsewhere and you probably are. It's a shame you can't search for bikes quite as easy as autos. It also adds difficulty because of the KTM/BMW /husky merry go round...kinda hard to tell who may have a TR. Maybe be best to just pick up the phone and start calling I reckon. I bet money there's a few still out there hiding.

Thanks Mag00. I've done a lot of calling and know where a few are so now it's just up to calling them back and see where I can get the best deal and still feel good about the purchase. I was considering Motofit but after seeing this thread I decided I would rather spend more if I have to just to avoid having to deal with them. The initial issue in this thread is about 4 years ago but apparently they have a sales manager who was recently charged with selling crack. Oh and it seems he was hired after the charges were made public.

Thats what I did. Called every dealer within 250 miles. But you need to move fast when you find one. The go fast...

Just make sure you get the cerificate of manufacture and bill of sale and you are ok. Maybe the sales manager will make a mistake in your favor for a bribe. Opportunity knocking. That would be a double win for you, the dealer gets burned for hiring the bum, and you get a sweet deal.

Well I just finalized my purchase of the demo bike from Wagner in MA. It's got right at 600 miles and they had already installed the skidplate, barkbusters, and the larger off-road pegs. Now I just have to finalize the accessories such as panniers, gps, and new pants and a jacket, and plan the route, etc. etc. etc.
