  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TC, TXC, TE 250 difference?

I'm not even sure I would want to give up my trusty 125 but all this 250 talk has me interested. I am not real clear on what model I would like the best though. I am wondering exactly what is different between the three.

Do we have the actual weights of all 3? I see from the Dirt Rider article that the TC is actually 221. Have the other 2 been on a scale(not looking for bathroom scale reports as they always seem low)? As an aside, how does the TC weight compare with the competition?

Is the TC a 5 speed? If so that is a big downside for me. Are the TXC and TE the same tranny but with a 6th?

Do both the TC and TXC come with the TC fork and the TE come with the downgraded fork?

Are the frame angles exactly the same for all?
I assume the TXC and TC come with a spark arrestor and the TC does not.
Is the fuel injection an advantage for someone who does not change much elevation on a ride? With the FI I guess some tuning would be needed initially but maybe never again. How much stuff is there that can go wrong in the middle of the woods? Such as fuel pumps and electronics. Should power be about the same between the carb and FI?
 
I can only answer a few but: yes the TC is a 5 speed. Yes it came with a spark arrestor. Power on the TC250 is awsome. That 221 must be a full of fuel weight.

The article at this post says 221 ready to ride no fuel. Does that not seem correct?

I did not know it came with a spark arrestor. That is a big plus. So is it the same silencer that the TXC comes with?
How fast does 5th top out? Is the top speed any worse then a WR250(Husky)? I ride tight woods so don't have to have a real high gear but I don't want to be screaming the whole time on gravel road sections.

I am also curious how these motors hold up. I am busted up and actually only walked without a walker today for the first time in over 7 weeks. Obviously I can wait a while before I make a decision.
 
I swear unless my 08 CR is heavier than it's supposed to be the TC "feels" about 5 lbs heavier at the MOST or close to the listed weight of 213.8 lbs. Mabye they just did a great job of hiding the weght through great balance and low weight mass. Yes we took the SA out of my sons as far as top speed on a 2.5 mile MX track with some great run ups we never got out of 4th gear. This bike will fly.
 
I am sure the 125 is not as light as claimed also. That is the way it is with all brands except for KTM usually.

221 is still light, I'm just wondering how heavy they get with estart, kickstand, etc.
 
I asked that question to someone at Husky and was told that the frame angles were the same between the TC/TXC/TE. The motor is supposed to be as well besides the FI/carb and exhaust. The forks are the same on the TC/TXC, TE gets the KYB open chamber forks.

I think the biggest factors in weight between the TC/TXC are the silencer and the battery. I added a turntech for the battery and am waiting on a lighter silencer. Then I think it will feel as close as possible to the TC. It feels really close now. I do not think the starter adds that much weight being so low and small. Besides all of that it was a very hard decision between the TC/TXC for me.

Let's not forget the mighty TE once we get some reports. It is going to be just as good and have a few Yamaha friends who prefer those forks for woods riding. Not to mention the plate factor.

I have seen two calibrated weights for the TC 250 with everything but gas. One was 217 and change and the other was just a couple of oz's over 218. That jives pretty close with the dry weight of ~214 that Husky publishes(2 lbs coolant,2lbs oil=218). Add ~ 11 lbs of gas @6 lbs/gal and you have ready to race at about 229(water=8lbs/gal,gas~6lbs/gal). That is still extremely light for a 250F and all the weight is so low and very centrallized.

I am guessing the TC250 has damn near the same tranny as the CR 5 speed in the WR 250. With the way the 250F rev's it is probably good for damn near 80 mph with just the 5 speed. Someone commented that the TXC250 would top out at 97 mph.

Someone posted pics of a TC250 on the scale in addition to a TE. The TC was pegged at 99kg and the TE at 108 I believe. I have felt the TE250 at my local shop and while lighter than last years bike, it doesn't have the same super light feel as the new TC 250.

I too would like to know the skinny on TE vs TXC for 2010.

No skinny on the O-10s but my O8 TXC250 is a litttle heavy to lift but you will never know it on the single tracks as it flicks around like a 125....I'm not much of a jumper but I think it might feel slightly heavy on the take off...slight, not too much and on landing it feels fine to me...Again, I'm in the woods usually jumping so I do not think this is the same as a manicured track jump. Usually just 15-30 footers are big jumps out there..

I'm totally satified with this bike...it is not perfect but it gasses up well, turns on a dime for me and looks very cool...If the oh-10s are a step forward and I know the weight is down on them, it will be a very very cool bike for years to come...

The 6-speed tranny suits me also....just bang up to the next gear...motors screams and holds its RPM with speed increase only...I'd be interested in knowing if the 010s are geared a little taller in the 5th or 6th gears...I'm not a mechenical engineer and have no knowledge in gear ratios, but adding more stepping here will make the 08s a little more street\fireroad friendly. But don't mess the bike up by making too big a step here. The O10s might have this higher stepping?

The weight is apparent only when loading the bike or picking it up on the trail...

I replaced my fork oil with 5wt and did the advised trick for removing all air from my forks, turned some of the clickers and the front end rides very plush in the single tracks and rough stuff in GPNF. I also dialed in the rear shock and removed all the harshness...The last ADJ was in the high speed clicker....I'm very happy with the suspension now :banana:

Next I'm going to try and dial in the CARB and see what I can get out of it :ride: I don't have any complaints and when I decide to get another Husky, if I ever decide to change from this bike...Maybe I can find another 08 or 09 TXC that has been sitting up and not ridden as I think this might be my last model to ever look for. And yes I know Husky will make advancements but I'm an old guy, retired, and don't see anything but a 08 TXC250 in my dreams :banana:

I'm a 6-speed fan also...for the woods and single track...The TXC works great for me...Usually I use 2-4 and this is plenty of speed..When climbing steep uphills, ESP in twisty spots or switchbacks, I go back to 1st as a safety net...I acutally think I could go up 1 tooth on the front or go down a couple more teeth to a 46 rear sprocket and have plenty of low-gearing for this twisty stuff where we ride and increase the top speed a little...most of the time, first is just too low.
 
Still curious if anyone has a back to back comparison on the TE vs TXC.

I am hoping for nice tax refund for 2009 and that will hopefully get me over the hump for a new 2010 TE.

We have a 2010 TE 250 and with both bikes being exactly the same barring the lighting for the street legal ends on the TE.

Resale on a street legal titled bike is the nutz in most states these days.
