  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hey guys,

just wondering what gearing you guys are running? Thinking of changing and just wondered what others had for racing?

My front is stock and rear is a 51. I race mostly off road. (2010)

Do you not find that you're inbetween gears on some corners? Like revving the nuts out 2nd gear , or clutching 3rd?

We're thinking of trying a 14 on the front if it'll fit, if not going for a 46/47 on the rear, so that 2nd gear is a must round corners

No excess revving, for me it just pulls better in every gear.

After having a think, I think we're gonna try a 52 on the rear and go with 3rd gear corners, as opposed to smaller on rear and 2nd gear corners. Will try it on the weekend and let you guys know

1st time I've been on here after changing the gearing.

After thinking about it for some time, we decided against bigger on the rear and 3rd gear corners, purely for the fact of running out of gears on a fast track. With the standard gearing we were hitting 5th gear along a couple of straights.

We decided to try a 47 on the rear, and hope that 2nd gear would be better out of the turns. I think we were right. 2nd gear is now used out of corners, shifting to 3rd and 4th on the same track. For larger sweeping corners 3rd is good, and 2nd is good for hairpins and tighter turns. The bike is loads faster on top end and holds onto gears alot longer than before. Definately seems alot better.

Hopefully this will be good when we race next weekend. Obviously we havent tried it on a fast race track, only been able to try it practicing.

Think that would work for off-road racing? I think I'd like the gears to pull a little longer and I really don't want to give up any top end.

It works perfect for motocross racing. Pulls the gears alot longer and gains on top end
