• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I can tell you that the Sequoia rack and bags, and the Skid Plate are superb.

The rack system will not break like the stock rack. And is extremely versatile. I took my rifle and 2 short guns with ammo and shooting accessories to the range and it worked perfectly.

And the skid plate is one of the best I've seen. The coverage is awesome. You can use a lift under it with no worries. And I can't tell any noise difference at all.

I'll post a few pictures later. But the pictures on their website is my bike and my installation.

TCI's pictures of the products I have.

I did some testing for Tom (TCI) last year when he first developed the rack system for the Tiger 800, and I can vouch that the design, execution, and support for his products are top-notch.

The windscreen looks very functional. I may have to give that sucker a try before my next long trip. Thanks for putting them on our radar.

Why does TCI always mount the saddle bags backwards?

They do 4 different bag systems. I believe 3 of them are relatively square/rectangular. And would not really have a forward/backward orientation.

As far as the Sequoia rack and bags, the shape seemed to justify the orientation.

Its most noticeable with the sequoia, but there is another with a taper that I thought they had backwards as well.
The bag manufacturer photos and how they sit on every other bike I have seen them on are with the tapers on the back sides.

I dont know, they just look funky to me the way TCI does them with the tapers going forward, particularly when the tail bag tapers back.

Looks like TCI have done the same as what Ventura did with their luggage for the TR650 and built it with an allowance for rider + pillion + luggage. I'm sure there probably is a small market for owners of Stradas or Terras who want to tour two-up, but this design pushes the entire luggage load back to the rear axle, and behind the rear axle, which might not be a huge problem on a large touring bike but could really upset the handling of a light bike like the TR650. I think they've really missed the point of this bike, which I believe would overwhelmingly be 1 up adventure riding or touring in which case the handling and balance of the bike should be a high consideration and mount the luggage as centrally as practicable.

I'm super excited about these racks. I've been waiting for these for quite a while now. OK, not really that long, considering it was just late June when I contacted Tom about making something for the TR650. But it feels like forever.

While I agree that 1-up adventure/touring is a definite strong point on this bike, one of the reasons I got the bike was to do short, 2-up adventure day trips with my wife. Of course I got the smallest bag set-up because even when doing longer 1-up trips, I want to minimize baggage weight. I don't think a reasonable load moved back far enough to allow a pillion is going to make a huge difference. A huge load that far back would be horrible. But I think a huge load anywhere on this bike is defeating the purpose of the bike in the first place.
