  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I ve just bought this bike . When turning on the ignition sometimes the fuel pump came on others it didnt . When it does it starts up no problem .
This morining the inspector came to do a road worthy certifcate and turned on ignition and no pump noise . Pressed in red switch and dash lights come on but no pump noise and start button not working
Out of gear . clutch in and all that . Followed starting instructions in manual.

Is there a wiring issue that I need to look at . I know battery is ok and starter motor was fine just seems to be an electical glitch .

I have attached horn and that wasnt working either . All lights were working fine.

The other thing Ive noticed is the hot start lever near the clutch is loose and has excessive play - I was told it was a hot start lever . The manual seems to not have one and has a pull lever near the throttle body which it says to put on when cold . I did notivce it seemed to be revving high when it was working .

need help please

If you hit the start button briefly do you then hear the fuel pump run? If so, You may want to check the wires that lead out of the left side case above the shifter. Move these around while your switch is on for the first 3 seconds. These wires are tightly pulled there on some bikes. There is a wire that leads out of that to tell the bikes fuel pump to come on for the priming of the fuel. You could have pulled it or gotten a short in there.

The only other thing I can think of is pull the thermostat wire plug off the right hand side of the cylinder. It is a 2 prong wire that has a brass temp. sensor in the cylinder. If this is bad it could cause the bike not to start but I think the pump will still run if that sensor is bad. Of course check all fuses.

The hot start lever is supposed to have some play in it. It is actually a high idle circut. Good Luck and keep us posted what you find.

thanks for posting.
It started - then wouldnt - now it s seems ok and i darent move it . Rode it up the street and horn working . Goes well .
The wires near the pipe /gear lever had the casing melted but wires seem ok .
turning key and the pump comes on . Wasnt coming on before but lights on dash . Middle blue light wasnt coming on There seems to be a message E 41 E still coming up then disappearing and odomter reading shows.
Its not filling me with great confidence though

when the issue occurs it willl not kick start either
wanted to check spark . Is there also a trick with the spark plugs - it seems small and hard to get to -is there a trick ro removal? what size is the socket needed ?

If or when you have the non use of the starter or intergizing of fuel pump try to move kickstarter as it will also cycle the fuel pump.. Battery should be a yuasa in later year 2010 models but if not they had battery failures.

There is a rubber oring that sits in the head and trapped down by the valve cover.. Get the correct size sprocket and grind down til it has a thin wall.

With only a two bolt cover it is not hard to remove the cover to do a plug change and it could be a faster way..

E 41 E means the speedo unit is for the "TE" model.
Hope it helps

Chow, Carl

Check your fuses. If you wash your bike a lot like I do. The fuses get corrosion between the fuse blade and the holder. Even though the old fuses still had continuity I replaced them and used dialectric grease. Fixed it for me.

A little trick on the fuses as well, you can mount them so they face downward. This way the water drains out instead of sitting inside.

did you have the same issue?
worth a try - thanks

My problems were not as intermittent. One day I hit the power button and no fuel pump noise. I thought my fuel pump went out. Just as a precaution before I went out and bought a new fuel pump I decided to check the fuses. The fuses were ok but there was slight corrosion on the blades. I replaced them anyways and all was good.

It was working . Stopped working . Now works again without moving the bike .
This is what happens . I turn on the key nothing happens .
If I press the red button down the dash lights come on and speedo etc but no pump noise and no starter . Lights work.
When the bike does run the red button switrch down kills the engine . So kill switch on is turning on dash .
I ll try to work out which fuse could be an issue but they look fine and work fine now I wlll replace if necessary

Same problem happened to me today. I stopped the bike with the kill switch and when I wanted to head back home I turned the key on and pushed the on switch. NO fuel pump prime noise??? Checked fuses, played with wires and pump still does not prime. I checked all my wires and connectors and the look ok. Any ideas or fixes.

Thanx

My problem was to do with the wires that run from the ignition switch . If it happens - I push the wires to loosen them and the pump comes on .
I have now zip tied the wire in a position that works - not the best solution .
