  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

te 250 red line / limiter?

Silly question, I know. But I'm a new owner and never had a dirt bike with a tach before! So, it was never a serious question. I just put the big sprocket on and thus am reving alot more. What's the rev limit on this thing? And is there a limiter? Its a 2010 TE250.

Somewhere at ~12G ++ or so is what has been repeated out here before on the limiter upper RPM range... Not too sure on what a dyno shows, but I'd guess the power and HP tapers off about 10500 or so as I doubt peak HP is made at peak RPM ... I'm sure someone out here has more specific info ...

My 08 TXC250 starts feeling good ~@ 6G and stays good to something a little > 10G .. after that, in the 11 to 12G range ... I just don't feel alot more action happening ... I'd lower the limiter on mine if I could even though I'm very careful to not hit the limit...

My bike has the vapor with the tach but I can't watch it really when riding ... But I can pretty much tell the ~6G mark and the upper ~10G limit on the power by the sound of the bike now so the vapor did its job...

2010/2011 te 250 x light motor
max power at 9800 to 10000rpm.....will rev to 13200rpm with no power being made at max rpm
max torque at 8200 to 8600rpm....

NOTE...to get the max power curve use at 6000rpm to 10000rpm the bike will perform best in this rev range

I just put in the big sprocket as well on my TE 250 2010 because of lack of torque in the tight stuff in the woods. My question is can you hold the throttle at 10000 RPM range while commuting on the road for a long period .

Not if you want the engine to last...........

I have fear keeping my rpms around 6000-7000 rpms with long road travels.

I'd like to hear about how people are riding the 250s and 310s on road. I ride trails so have the 50 rear on, but I also need to ride 20 minute stretches of road where speed limit is 50mph. I keep my 250 (2010) revved in the 6000-7000 rpm range but not sure how great that is on the x-lite motors. Doing so barely gets me to 45-50.

If to're commuting get a 13/40 sprocket set. 50@6200 IIRC

I don't think commuting at high RPMs is a good idea.

Some people have a road setup and dirt setup if they commute substantial distances..

While I do agree, it's easier said then done. Because I am literally on the cusp of 50 / 50 but lean towards more trails. Problem with going 40 in rear is that the trails I ride, are pretty muddy and deep. So having that 50 in rear is a big help. Too much clutch work otherwise.

Generally I commute to a friends or trail to trail - that's the best part about having a 'street legal dirt bike'. I just hope the motor , with proper maintenance, can hold 6200-6500 rpms in 6th 10-25 minutes at a time.

Think I just need a 310 :rolleyes::thinking:

My 310 (non x-lite) has been held at 80-90 km/h or 50-55 m/h for 15-20 minute stretches many times @ approx 8000rpm 14/50 gearing. Bike and has over 5500km on it now and the motor still feels new, uses little/no oil, plenty of compression etc.. I wouldnt go for long stretches at any higher speeds than that though, the revs just get too high

BTW I think mine revs to ~12,500 rpm under power in 6th gear.

Look at the tach, hold it wfo in 1 st or 2nd gear, when the motor starts to crap and bang thats the rev limiter.
Without it will rev to 19,000 or 19,500,
Can do it a couple times then Big Bang.

My unscientific opinion:

My 263cc SYM scooter will run 7500rpm all day, every day, forever.

I've run my 2010 TE250 @ 50-55mph with 13/50 gearing for 10 miles or so with a little on/off the gas. I don't think it hurts the motor other than it tends to suck oil in the aibox at road speeds.

You will be OK doing 50 for short highway stretches. I did 10 mile stretches of Pacific Coast Hwy in Huntington Beach to get some breakin miles on the bike and still cruise the beach. Stretches of 395 in Mammoth Lakes and I can run 50 on the gravel roads by the Owens River. George said he was on the limiter a lot racing in Baja, dirt and blacktop.

13/50 gearing on a 08 TE250/300

ETA these engines sound like they're lugging below 5000 so 6-7000 is just the low end of the power curve, not really straining it.

Ouch, I had to drop my son's truck off in El Cajon, Ca about two weeks ago. I threw my '07 te250 in the truck to get back home and was hoping to hit as much dirt as possible in and out of the Cleveland National Forest and then back to San Juan Capistrano. I ended up getting lost and put about 180 miles on the bike that day and only about 30 of it dirt (Still fun though!) I'm running 14/50 and tried to keep it under 50 mph. But there were some long stretches that I just held it at 45-50 mph. I noticed a lot of pinging or knocking when the rpm's dropped and I didn't downshift on acceleration.
I hope I didn't do any permanent damage.

I've run my 2011TE 250 with a 13/50 set up and 55 for 10 -20 mile streches. Its wining a bit but I think its ok. I may go to a 12/45 set up to get the best of both worlds. The 13/50 is great for hill climbs as you can keep 2nd gear easily. The 40 rear wont do that.
