  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 310 REAR TIRE?

I know everyone has an opinion but I would appreciate your thoughts on a rear tire for my 2011 TE 310. I do maybe 10% road and the rest is desert and single track. What size and type do you guys recommend? What about a Dunlop D606 or 739? Size? 120 -18? Thanks.

My sister has the D606 on her 450 and she has liked it and it has lasted her quite a while. I rode it and it felt like it slid around a lot in the dirt and was unpredictable, but when I dropped the pressure a bit it was a lot nicer for me. She even thought it was better. On my 510 I have the Kenda Parker DT and I like it a lot. I have quite a few off road miles in the desert and it still looks really good. Its also a six ply tire which i liked as well.

MT21 might be a good choice, too. 120/100x18 would be the correct size according to the spec (mine shipped with a 140/80x18 Krapoo on it)
Malcom Smith has been reported as saying the D606 is his preferred Dual Sport tire. However, I've heard the front 606 is garbage. Wish I'd known that before I bought one. It's sitting in my garage waiting to get put on my TE610.

i had the MT21s on my klx before i bought the husky. wished i had stolen them off the bike before i sold it. i am going to put a set on the husky as soon as current tires need replacing.

IRC VE33 Enduro Tire ... This is about the only tire I can get here at a reasonable price ... Hooks up good about everywhere but is soft rubber and does last too long ...

Here in Europe my 2011 TE310 came with 120/90 Rear Tyre .

Standard was Michelin Enduro Comp III ,(FIM approved).

Is this because the majority of bikes here are raced , as apposed to trail riding in US ?

I use Michelin S12 XC (120/90/18) in soft / sand when I can (not FIM approved) and M12XC on Hard Pack .

Other times I use the stock Enduro Comp III ( when Regs call for FIM approved ) .

Tyres are a minefield ! Depends on how and where you ride , whats important ? (grip or tyre life ?) , your wallet !

DavidB -

Tons of good info and opinion about tires for the searching. I have had many 606's in the back on a few bikes and they are very hard to beat. I too ride 90% trails and these always give great wear and traction. Mine currently is a 130-90/18. A 130 or a 120 would be a good choice for you in this brand/model of tire.

So far I also like my new Pirelli Scorpion Pro FIM 90-90/21 in the front. Another plus is that both of these tires are DOT approved so they are street legal.

That thing that comes in the rear of your bike stock looks like it would scare small children!

After using the D606 on my 450. I would recommend it for the 310, it's a little small for the 450. Handles great on pavement.

I am running Metzler Unicross 120-90-18. They are very agressive DOT tires and i like them better offroad than 606's. I will try Motoz Enduro IT if they ever come out with their planned DOT tire.
