  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 511 Chain Slack?

I think I'm going to try the Cycra CRMs. They mount closer to the bar mount. Pricey, though.

I found the Cycra full racer pack on Amazon for $90 something. It came today so I mounted it up. The pack includes everything needed to mount them. I did have to uninstall my ignition switch and cut off the factory switch mount. But the switch came with an alternative mount which actually puts the switch in a better position. The Cycra is a very nice product and at that price was probably cheaper than the cycle gear stuff overall. I also got my Trail Tech woods bend bars today. Very comfortable. tmp_20131224_192653-198466248.jpg

I added a little insurance. The stock battery is 6Ah and weights 6lbs. I added an Earthx battery which is 12Ah and weights 1.3lbs. It has it's own battery management system built into the battery, so no fancy charging systems needed. The 449/511 has a great 196watt charging system and now it has twice the battery. I can get you a discount on an Earthx and free shipping. :)

Trying to check out at ziptyracing.com. Used the Cafe Husky coupon code and the system wants to charge $14.30 for shipping.

If I had a dollar for every time some "Numpty" says to me "Hey, your chain is to tight", id be able to buy me a new bike by now. :banghead:

I'm going to guess that the chain should be set to have a 5mm play "gap" and not the 0.04" which is also specified in the attachment. By my admittedly poor math .040" translates closer to 1mm.

I've seen bigger errors in the manual- my son's 2012 511 calls for a 2 or 3 inch valve clearance.

found it. how about a 15" clearance. Not only off by a couple of orders of magnitude, but the conversion is wrong- add to that, the goofy euro comma is used intermittently for our decimal point.

Yea, 5mm is good. Looks tight. But it works fine.

My workshop manual says max 5 mm gap. Plus this picture is confusing, the arrow points to the top run of the chain, but the drawing shows the measurement at the bottom run of the chain. In the picture, it looks like the bike is on the ground, but the manual doesn't say if it should be on the ground or on a stand.

Anyway I just changed the gearing to 14/52. The chain seem tight at 5 mm to me. Plus does anyone know if there is an adjustment (fore/aft) in the chain guide? That seems to be too close to the sprocket now.

Run at least 20mm slack.
5mm is hard for some people to gauge and they often end up too tight.
There's NO harm in running the chain a little loose (other than a bit of chain rattle at low rpm), however, we've seen quite a few damaged bikes with worn out countershaft splines from over tightening on our FB page.

Run it a little loose, keep it lubed, ride happy.
