• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

does anyone know if a shootout on gravel roads were to occur between a ktm 690 enduro r........versus a husky te 511 ............which bike would win????????? (55 mph maximum speed is the only rule in the shootout).

Never heard of a gravel road shootout or why you would want one? And what do you mean by win? I would think the tire and rider would have way more to do with it than which of those 2 bikes. The 690 weighs a good bit more but makes more power. I would rather be on the 511 or my TR650.

I've smoked other riders on gravel roads while riding my Suzuki SV650 street bike with sticky street rubber. That doesn't mean the SV650 is the better gravel road dirt bike. Not by a long shot.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS. KTM 690 SHOOTOUT VERSUS TE610 AND VERSUS TE511......SO FAR IVE TESTED THE KTM A BIT........PLUSH RIDE , I WANT MORE SPEED THOUGH......TOPS OUT AT MID 60......HOPE I CAN IMPROVE TO 70 SOMEHOW........I HAVE A SWEET SPOT FOR MY OLD TE610.......GOOD ALL AROUNDER ALTHOUGH A BIT MORE UNCOMFORTABLE THAN THE KTM..........SEEMS LIKE THE OLD TE 610 GOES FASTER THAN THE NEW KTM??????IS THAT POSSIBLE? NOT TESTED THE TE511 YET

Quit shouting, Yogavnture. You've been asked several times to not post in all capital letters. Please.

The 690 must be horribly choked up in standard trim if you can't get it beyond 70mph. The Aussie owners are reporting 100mph+, which I'd believe as my TE630 can do around this given enough straight road.

Spend a little time opening up its breathing & fuelling & you won't want for more acceleration or outright speed. My 630 was woeful in standard trim, but with a few simple mods to pipes, fuelling & gearing is now fantastic. If you take the time to set the 690 up properly you'll enjoy many years of thrilling riding.

LOL, so your new KTM tops out at mid 60, my new TE449 in complete stock on the road hit 85 no trouble and on knobblies, but that said, My friend who has a KTM 690 he hits 95 top end though he does change his rear spocket when he wants more top end.

MAYBE IM TOO CAREFUL ON BIKES.? ALL I KNOW ABOUT THE TE511 is that at 63 mph the front end was shaking and the rear end was shaking on the highway.......what i know about the ktm is it was smooth as silk on the road.......not as good as the te 511 on dirt (but close).......on the ktm at 67 mph on highway I was at 5 on the rpm thing.....I guess that means 5000 rpm? that seems high?

motosportz, im noticing you do not speak with objective thought? the ktm 690 and the terra is not even worth debating a comparison. and a gravel road shootout? why not????????????????? im already known as the nut here......(although in reality im the creative sane one,,,,,,,,,,,,so why not a gravel road shootout??????? sounds like creative fun to me********************************************************************************!

THANKS RUSS FOR YOUR OBJECTIVE THOUGHT.
You're welcome. Like yourself, I'm not wedded to a particular brand. I buy the bike that best suits my needs at the time of purchase. If I was buying now & could only have one bike the 690 would be it, as unfortunately the 630 is no longer in production. The Terra wouldn't get a look in - it's actually not the same class of bike, i.e. it is more road & less dirt oriented, probably 50/60, whereas I need more off road performance which the 690 unquestionably offers.

Don't fill your mind with unnecessary doubts. You have made the right decision & it's an awesome bike. Just take the time now to get it running as the factory intended, rather being choked up with all the emission rubbish. It'll then have more performance than you'll ever need.

thanks again russ for your objective thought. I might get kicked off this site soon . not sure........im not a motorbike expert, but from what I could see the 690 had a swingarm like a piece of art.......the frame was a piece of art.......yes you pay for that......but from what I saw of the terra, it was more cheaply made.....shorter......and heavy********************************************************************************!! 100 lbs more than the 690...........its clear to me that my discussion has got corporate thinking ,,,,,,,,,,,,corporate is saying...........why don't we make a 690 type bike? or why are we not making the 630 type bike anymore? maybe next year? if so , u can thank me then......

please don't ride that bike on gravel in iowa. we have lots of deer and a crash would be possible , with that street bike/rubber..........

I simply don't believe that your stock te449 does 85 on road with stock knobbies.......as my te511 wouldn't do over 65 on road without severe shaking........note. the ktm on road was smooth as silk.......PERFORMED AS ADVERTISED......

Sometimes you wake up in the morning, make yourself some coffee and log in to your favorite interwebs site

And sometimes you make a conscious decision to start reading something that looks weird to begin with

And then, most of the times, the only two thoughts that go swirling in ya'head is;
A. Huh.....?!?
B. What....in.....the world....!?!

In those times you'll be wise to just power everything down, go outside and do something productive....

I'm gona go out now, gota clean my new boat and cut the grass
You guys have a lovely day

Your scattered style of posting is generally not High-Class and your use of CAPITAL'S is considered offensive to some. If you get kicked off it is because you have not followed the rules.

Now, can I make a suggestion...?

Refocus your energy on something creative. You have three great bikes, get a Gopro and make your own SHOOTOUT VIDEO comparing all three.
A shootout video from your point of view on your bikes and their intended use would be an interesting watch. I'm not joking or being sarcastic. Go get yourself a Gopro and get to work Yogi.

thanks.....my hope is that I can get the 610 redone by George if he will have me.......and post pics of that redo...........my hope is to get the 511 either sold for a fair price, or oil changed so I can ride it and give a decent fair review........and my hope is I can spend a few bucks on the ktm to get it going at highway speeds with ease.........im not a computer or photo person . I can take a pic of my bikes though and post it here i guess so that motosportz thinks im actually a person speaking my truth
