• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

It does not bother me if you believe me or not? although there certainly seems to be differences between stock US and Uk versions of the bike for sure. but I did about 200 miles on the road on the stock knobs, and at first hated it and after a while it was not as bad as first seemed, but hit 80 quite a few times on the knobblies before I put 17 rims on the bike with pilot sports, now pretty smooth.

now that im keeping my old te......which is heavier than the 511 and now that ive bought a ktm 690........my road issues are history............and now that im stuck with the 511.....I suppose I will keep it as a gravel road only bike.......I will let u know my thoughts about it when I get the oil changed

Nice line-up, even though I think there is some overlap. My 610 is the best gravel road bike I've ever had...although I also think it's the best "Do-It-All" bike I've ever had, too :)

Also, you're not "stuck" with the TE511. You can always sell it. I wouldn't mind having one. I've ridden the 449 and 511 in the dirt and I loved both of them. That, and I'm really used to excessive filter oil dripping all over the place. That's why I've never had a problem with dirt getting into my motor.

I simply don't believe that your stock te449 does 85 on road with stock knobbies.......as my te511 wouldn't do over 65 on road without severe shaking........note. the ktm on road was smooth as silk.......PERFORMED AS ADVERTISED......
I'm curious, does your KTM have rim locks? I added secondary rim locks opposite the factory ones to both my wheels to smooth out the street ride. I've had it to 85 MPH & could have easily gone much higher. That's with a monster Teraflex rear knobby & the stock 140. No issues. Engine is also 100% stock apart from the JD jetting.

P.S. I've ridden a new 511 briefly & the engine is considerably smoother than my 06 510.

i don't know much about cycles. but i suspect the ktm does not have rim locks because the ride seemed smooth.......im liking the ktm more each day. im 52 years old and the bike seems to be put together well........I don't know what bike you are speaking about, YOUR KTM 690?

sorry to tell you this but I think the ktm 690 for the over 40 crowd might just beat the husky 610 in the gravel road shootout.......not sure yet...need to get new pipe on 610 and ktm and then compare......that ktm is getting prettier every day.

06 Husqvarna TE 510.

Easy enough to tell if you have rim locks, just look at the wheel. Is their just a valve stem for the air, or is there that & another stem looking bolt in addition to it? Usually directly opposite the valve stem.

I'll be your age in a couple months :D

From 0 to 60, the 511 is the most advanced weapon in your arsenal, period. The KTM 690 will out perform the 511 on the tarmac, without question, and bridges the gap to dirt very well, much like the Terra does.

Just remember, the 449 is not a race bike, so you can't expect a lot out of it.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS. KTM 690 SHOOTOUT VERSUS TE610 AND VERSUS TE511......SO FAR IVE TESTED THE KTM A BIT........PLUSH RIDE , I WANT MORE SPEED THOUGH......TOPS OUT AT MID 60......HOPE I CAN IMPROVE TO 70 SOMEHOW........I HAVE A SWEET SPOT FOR MY OLD TE610.......GOOD ALL AROUNDER ALTHOUGH A BIT MORE UNCOMFORTABLE THAN THE KTM..........SEEMS LIKE THE OLD TE 610 GOES FASTER THAN THE NEW KTM??????IS THAT POSSIBLE? NOT TESTED THE TE511 YET
Your 690 only gets to 60mph or your 511? My 690 in fairly stock trim does a lot more than than 60. The 511 should at least beaable to do 75-80. Is it still restricted?

The pic was taken near his house. He lives way out in the country on a dirt road. He is a real person, just very strange.
