  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310 oil change

Thanks DG.

On a side note: I almost cross threaded when screwing the hose fitting back in as the hose was still connected and made it hard to line up properly.
Best to take the hose off completely to remove/replace the fitting IMO.

Are the dealers the only place to get the proper maintenance book, or CD in these modern times? I need a proper book for a 2012 TE250/310

On a related note, the manual says to use benzine to clean the screen filter. I have no idea where to get benzine...am I correct in assuming kerosene will work just fine?

Yes, kerosene or mineral spirits will work fine. I use carburetor spray cleaner because it is convenient. Stay away from benzine.

On the 449-511's the screens are prefilters to the oil pumps and it is a requirement to clean them with each oil change. I am unsure about the actual purpose on the 250/310's, I will pull the cases and look when I get back to the shop. However I did ask Ty and he recommended cleaning the screen at each oil change.

Thanks. I'm guessing it probably doesn't NEED to be cleaned at every oil change depending on how often you perform it but IMO since you're already doing the deed, might as well go all the way.

I change the oil on my 2013 te310 every 800 km's but haven't yet been able to figure out how to get that mesh plug all the way out from the drain plug hole without it hitting the rear suspension linkage. Any ideas or am I just too daft to see something obvious here?

Snake your left hand in from behind and just above the frame. You can just slide the filter back and out with 2 fingers. When out then carefully tilt forward and down into your right hand. For a filter you're supposed to keep clean it sure is tricky especially if the frame/underside is not clean.
