  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

no, the more offset you have the less stable they are at speed. (typically on a dirtbike with 17s)

offset of triple clamps is measured from center point of head tube to center point of fork tube.
some supermoto triples are as low as 12mm offset because of wide rear tires and a shorter wheelbase.

those FBF triples you posted in the other thread that are 23mm are gonna be no better than your OEM clamps. (performance wise)

its confirmed. The tech told me i need 0 mm offset triple clamps for proper geometry of the bike. fortunately, the straight at the racetrack i reach about 90 or so. the bike is wobbling like crazy but stops as soon as pre brake before turn. so its tolerable.

I will search for some 0 offset clamps but i dont expect to find them. and im def not interested in spending 1500 to have a shop custom machine them.

yes . 100 mm is what i should have. stock is around 82. Lowering link wouldnt be nearly as substantial as a triple with proper offset.

why do you need 0 offset when SMR race bikes use 15mm?
you have the same frame as the SMR, tho the SMR does have a shorter swingarm.

What is 100mm measurement you refer to?

i believe the 100mm is the proper rake for smr racebike. correct me if im wrong please.

Update. i have one more race today and i decided to switch to some racing tires. duh. anyways. i put on bridgestones t003's. wobble is absolutely gone at top speed. I will have to still get the the right triples for better steering.

Wow!!! So swapping tires completely cured your bike? What was top speed for you so far?

Also I wanted to ask you what did you do to brakes with your sumo conversion?

so I got my SM wheels mounted today. I have conti SM tires on now. with 15 / 42 gearing and indicated 90mph i still had headshake today :(

I will also try Sumo front fender and drop forks more (they are at third line now)

but now I also wonder if this issue is related to the fact that TE has no counterballancer and engine vibration contributes to this issue...

spending more money on getting this running right begins to lose it's appeal...

The instant i changed tires the bike tracked perfectly straight at top speed. Dropping the forks helped but im still way out of wack for good steering. the only cure is a custom triple clamp at 0 offset. im waiting for a call back from Ferrachi and see what they come up with.

my SMR frame says TE on the head tube, so yes.
Im not sure how much the OEM triple are, but Im sure they would be close to the FBF ones.

I plan on getting some FBF 15mm triples this winter probably because they are more rigid.

Summit, Beaverun, Jennings GP, VIR, Mid Georgia kart, E Town, and hopefully Batavia and Barber before winter.
I will be planning another trip to Jennings this winter as an escape from the cold, thats the only time I go down there because its like an 1800 mile round trip for me. Tho its so worth it to go when otherwise you would be off the bike.

I've never heard of a 0 offset triple clamp. i would call halls or Gp cycles for SM info. I believe the only shorter swingarm was on the RR version. i think all the rest are stock length. but i could be wrong...

2009 and 2010 SMR 450/510 has the same swingarm as the RR model.

the smallest triple Ive seen was an 8.5

on another note...i took a picture of the rear axle. Do they make sliders that can fit with that axle rod welded in there. or should i cut it out?

YES! Super moto Engineering makes some rad ones! If you buy the whole kit they give you a price break and they guys who word there are rad to work with :) SME.com?
