  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE450 & Rekluse

A Class
When I first installed the Rekluse in my 08 TE450, about 8 months ago, it did fine and performed the way it was supposed to. Now it creeps badly and has started stalling a lot. My mechanic has tried many different setups to get it fixed without a lot of luck. Anyone else have any issues like this?

mine runs great, but i will be tearing it down this winter to check everything out.

is it stalling in first? if we had more info someone, might be able to help.

It stalls when I'm on the brakes entering a turn. The manual clutch also seems to have no affect on it. It doesn't start very well in gear. It seems as though their is too much drag.

Has the clearance been checked? If the clearance is too little the clutch will not disengage well. I would call Rekluse after you check the clearance.
I think it needs to be between .035 and .042". Refer to your installation instructions or call Rekluse if you don't know how to do it.
Also, if the balls in the ramps are hanging up they could keep it engaged. check the grooves the balls rest in for any wear or damage, and check the spring under the pressure plate.

Creeping is usually indicative of being on the tight side of the clearance and that can/will lead to stalling. The only unusual thing is clearance should increase with wear.

I'd put it over on its side, get the feeler gauges out and check for myself. Like the above poster mentioned too it could be a number of things though.

Thanks guys. I will try these suggestions. The one that sticks in my mind is the fiber plates. They look fine to my mechanic, but if you say yours looked fine but really benefited from being replaced then I will try that right away.

I wish i could be more helpful, but i am sure i ahve read some where on some forum that if you have the fibre plates around the wrong way it can cause this on some bikes ???

mine has just about stuffed the clutch basket , it's grooved to all hell , so i just filed the grooves out .and yes it's still working well , with the grooves filed down smooth and the cheepest fiber plates from a honda CRF 450 :D. it had broken two clutch fibers . and i reckon there steel plates are to thin , thats why its doing that , they flex to much and grab on the basket as there sharp and grab .

when replacing the fibers use Honda CRF 450 fibers there about 1/4 of the price ,you don't have to purchase the husky steels and fibers together , i also used the cheapest fibers as well i think dunlop . check the Barnett website for part numbers and you'll see the numbers matching husqvarna and honda .

i used the soft engage medium throttle and i reckon thats what stuffed the basket etc . i now use medium throttle medium engage i think and no probs

this dosnt help you as yet , but at least you can source cheap fibers , and be prepared for clutch basket wear .

It's easy to see if the fiber plates are too worn- just measure them with calipers. Also had a thought-if the steel plates have warped from heat, the clearances will decrease and it will engage unevenly. Check for flatness by laying it on a plate of glass and sticking a feeler guage under it. I think Rekluse gives a tolerance and so does the Husky manual.
The quick fix is to use some 400-600- grit laid on the glass and sand with a figure "8" motion on both sides. you will immediately see the high spots. A lot of heat is generated with the clutch slipping.
