  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE450 vs. TE510 ?

RAZR

Husqvarna
C Class
i apologize if this has been talked to death, but i am new to this thread (i come from the land of ADVrider).
i'm looking to buy a TE450 or TE510. and yes, i need a plate. i am in California and i ride various terrain.

i've asked around but no one has a solid answer as to why they chose their 450 vs their 510.

please give me your choice and why. and what kind of terrain you ride and what your particular bike does best.

thanks for all of your input!

I have both. The 510 has more grunt/low end torque, it will tractor up anything, even though I used it mostly for trail riding for years in tight single track most will tell you it's more at home in wide open places and thats probably true. It makes a pretty good dual sport as long as dual sport means getting from one trail to the next, neither are real comfortable at highway speeds on the street. My 450 is newer and the first/biggest difference is the shorter stroke motor which winds up quicker, it definately feels snappier and quicker but you lose a little torque over the 510. The 450 also feels lighter in the woods, I guess the shorter stroke is responsible for this as well. I guess it depends on what kind of riding you do mostly, I think I like the 450 better for the type of riding I do which is mostly trail riding.

Sharpie1 comments ring true for me too. I had a 05, 510 and found it demanding in the bush when directional change was required. It simply wanted to track ahead and required effort to throw it around tight turns. On hill climbs etc it was a real joy you could either explode up it or tractor depending on your skill level. The 450 with less reciprocating mass will change direction noticably easier. It seems way more flexible than the 50cc difference in capacity. It does spool up more quickly. While not having the bottom end of the 510 the 450 still has bags of grunt. I have not regretted the change in bike for my own needs and skill level. They are ok for small tarmac hits but are really a plated enduro bike and not designed like the 610/630 that are more dual sport orientated.
