TE510 crash protection and headlight upgrade

Hi All,


so I took my TE510 in the woods first time ever...first time for me and first time for my TE ....LOVE IT!!!

on the bad side... my local terrain is very very rocky and I managed to drop the bike twice ...just low speed stuff...no damage at all.. but I wonder, as I get faster what should I do to bullet proof the bike?

are radiator guards necessary?

Also,

whats the easiest way to add some more power to stock TE headlight?

I would recommend a proper skid plate (I have the up-tite plate and love it), and the plastic type rear chain guide made by either BRP or T.M. design works. As for the radiator guards, on the current TEs I think they are absolutely necessary. The design of the plastic two piece radiator shrouds look cool but don't lend as much structural support to the radiators as traditional one piece shrouds do. Actually, due to fact the only point of attachment for the lower black shrouds are to the radiators themselves, they aid in the bending of your radiators given the right (or wrong) fall. They're unanchored extension back adds leverage aiding in radiator bending. Picture dropping your bike at a near standstill on a steep hill. Once on it's side the bike slides downhill (backwards) a few feet. Some how the lower shroud gets "untucked" from the upper shroud and flexes outward, bending the side of your radiator inward. Ask me how I know this. Anyway 7602 makes some very nice guards that I now have installed. Hope this helps

Motosportz makes some very nice protection items too....skidplate, radiator guards, front and rear rotor guards. I have them all on and haven't had a malfunction yet in over 3,000 miles. I ride nothing but rocks here in PA and have my share of crashes

Here you go: www.7602racing.com Clay who owns 7602 is a regular on the board, in fact 7602 has their own sub forum on Cafe Husky in the market place section. One more item you would be wise to invest in is the 7602 clutch slave cylinder piston. It fixes a known design flaw in the stock part. As mentioned above Motosportz also makes great parts for our bikes and Kelly the owner is a great contributor here. Both options are great, cant go wrong with either!

Get the Trail Tech X2 headlight, the halogen is only $80 or so plus switch. Much better then stock light.

Motosportz also carries the X2 halogen which is a lot better headlight than stock.

Uptite has a skid plate and an LED light (with a long extension cord that can be used via battery power for work light).

I have the UpTite skid plate and plan to buy the 7602 rad braces. You can simply look at each and see they are the best option.

I looked at all of the skid plate options and talked to multiple desert racers here in UT & CA and ended up purchasing the Uptite skid plate for my 2009 TE510. After 1800 miles of mountain trail and desert riding it has taken a lot of abuse with dings in places on the side plates that would have either broken or significantly damage my case. Great design with excellent coverage for frame and engine. I am very happy with the fit and function.
