  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE511 reliability as a daily ride?

I used flex bars for the first time on a friends 511. They really were amazing. I didn't feel any vibes. It seems different for you guys that take them on the street though. I really didn't think those bars were worth the money until I used them

LoM is right. It's my 511 he rode. We swapped for a TXC 310 and I couldn't wait to get my bike back. In stock form the bike is suited just ok for what you want, but with a smaller rear sprocket and some bar mods you can pound out some miles with it. I did a 240 mile day on a group ride last month and would do it again and again. That would be similar to you wanting to ride out to the desert. With other small mods you can increase your oil capacity and not worry about the oil so much. I put on a 42t rear sprocket against others recommendation here and I gotta tell ya that it turns it into a mile eating maching and ridiculously fun on the street and still keeps very good trail manners. It brings the RPM's down which equals less vibration. The bike has gobs of power and I have no problems keeping up with anyone and it is actually quite opposite. I now have this crazy monster mortard, dirt bike, and in state adventure bike that I absolutely love. It's perfect for where I live.

It's funny because I hated it with the stock gearing and dreaded when I had to slab it to the trail and that is only a few miles. Now I would ride the bike to Texas or do the TAT. All it needs now is a large tank.

You know Zip-Ty has a large tank ;)

I did a dual sport on my TC449 last weekend, with 100+ miles in the saddle the bike did fine. I even have 1 larger tooth rear sprocket. The road sections were on the slow side, but I was still able to maintain 45-50mph and really that is as fast as anyone else was going. Yea, im due for a oil change, but I also have a cold 6 pack in the fridge that needs some attention too, so its all good!

I will add that i don't change the oil filter every ride. The oil drain is on the side and i can change my oil in like 5 minutes. Simple.

I change mine as needed, usually when it starts looking dark and I run full synthetic , it takes much longer to turn dark. 10-40w

I will say this...I would not ride 60 miles on pavement to go off roading unless it was fairly mellow. Not only would that mean 120 miles of knobby abuse, but I can't imagine doing sand whoops all day and then having to ride back home.

Guess I'm getting old, but its much better to have a soft seat and a drink holder with tunes on the way home after a day in the dirt. Even if my classic van doesn't have air conditioning or cruise control.
