    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Greetings -- I just picked up an '06 TE610 to add to my fleet. It has some miles (9k) and has never had the timing chain replaced, so I am going to embark upon that work this weekend.

My question: In reading various posts on this board and others, I see lots of discussion of changing the timing chain, but no mention of taking the next step and pulling the head. Seems to me that if you already have the thing torn apart and the chain off, it would take virtually no effort to pull the head and examine the valves?

That said, what reputation do the 610s have for valve health/life?

There's certainly many others here that have ALOT more wrenching time on the 610 than I, but the rep on the whole 610 motor is sterling. Basic motor pieces, valves included, are said to be almost totally bulletproof. Only concerns I've seen are cam chain life and maybe clutch basket issues with higher mileages as well.
 
Valves do not move much, keeps on running, no oil burning, no need to fix what is not broken. The replacement cam chain is lasting much longer than the original. 14,500 on my '07, 12,000 of those in the last 18 months. Yesterday checked my clutch basket for wear, barely any.
 
I checked my CCT over the weekend. Dont know how many clicks are available total, but mine was two away from full extension. Tore down the motor and have a chain on its way. Based upon the feedback, I'll leave the head untouched. Was just wondering about valves as its sooooo easy to pull the head right now!

Did you take the center bolt out of the CCT befroe you took it off. I'm at 15000mi 6clicks out. Valves are fine. I set them at.002, and 2or three oil changes later they're at .003, no worries..... Have fun, you'll love that bike...
