    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

TE610 with high miles advice

Just bought a 2008 TE610 with 16k miles. Want to take care of any known issues with this year/model so I can take her into the backcountry and not worry about getting stranded. Any ideas on what I might do would be greatly appreciated! Don't know too much about the history but believe it's been well maintained up to this point. The neutral light is flashing but it is running great. The previous owner said that was the tip over sensor but how would he know that and not clear the error? Only mod is an FMF silencer.
 
That's NOT the tip over sensor! Try putting a temp sensor in it 1st. Check the Cam Chain tensioner and give the bike a good once over. Make sure the valves are in spec. These bikes run lean stock and even leaner with just a slip on and no fuel tuner.
 
Thanks for the help! I'll get a temp sensor ordered up and look at that stuff. I think you're right about it running lean, it does pop a bit on deceleration from high rpms.
 
Other than what has already been mentioned The 610 is a pretty bullet proof engine and should serve you well. 16K is about half life before any major work.
 
First major problem I had was the impeller for the water pump spun on its shaft. (Around 15k miles on the bike.) so if you are doing your cam chain, check the impeller.

Second major problem I had, I blew the head gasket. (Just under 53k miles.) rebuilding it now. Happened about a month ago.

For reference I have a 2006 sm610. That has not had an easy life. I.e. ridden very hard on and off road.

The biggest thing I can suggest, is to change your oil..often.

I had the neutral light blinking for years on my 2008 610. I replaced the temp sensor but that did not fix it. I finally replaced the neutral sensor and that fixed it.
