• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Terra at Carnegie: It's Not Exactly A Dirt Bike...

My friend Dave just picked up a new-to-him Husqvarna TE630 and was wanting to take it out in the dirt and blow some of the rust off of his dormant-for-25-years dirt skills. Figuring it would be a nice day of putting around on dirt roads, David and I agreed to ride out to Carnegie with him. David rode his Super Tenere and I rode my Terra with semi-bald rear streety tire. What could possibly go wrong?

We rode out there from Oakland in thick fog and drizzle, only to be greeted by nice sunshine at the gate at 8am. Great day for a ride. Should we start at the MX track?

Dave's beautiful TE630 had 100 miles on it when he bought it...

Did I say dirt roads? David led us up some blue trails.
ABS disabling. ABS in the dirt on the 575lb Super Tenere is no good...

Even more not a dirt bike than my 650...

How we getting outta here, David?

This tire doesn't even work on the street anymore, much less the dirt...

My thoughts? "I have a 610 wearing brand new knobbies parked in my garage. Good thing I rode my commuter here today."

Still brown in the hills...

Dave got hung up on the trail ahead so David turned the mighty Tenere around, easy as you please...

Street bikes and Aerostiches at Carnegie...

It's downright small compared to his own bike. He'll be riding it next weekend so this was a shakedown run for him...

He still prefers the massive twin, though...

Oof...

Wow...Skip's has changed a lot over the years. MotoMart still has ice cream bars and levers, though. Lots and lots of levers :p

Fun day at the local dirt park. I only hit the ground twice, a moral victory considering the bike I was riding and the tires I was rolling on
And look! Proof that I was really there! Glad I didn't forget to ask someone to take our photo...

Oh yeah, I could have used these. They were on my porch the next day...

Interesting here ... Were you trying to rail that outside line in that choppy stuff like RV2 and topped out the forks and ended up like that?

Heh. Yeah. that's it. I was railing that corner!

Uh, no. I was trying to tippy-toe down the steeper-than-it-looks scritchy hill so that I could make the tight left-hander switchback at the bottom. It didn't exactly go as planned :p

Ok... I'll go back and review the film :) ... But you could rail that outside line, right?

Yep, pics and vids always made me look slow and the terrain easy ...

What are the knobbie tires?
Going on the Terra?

Yeah, the knobbies are Dunlop 606's for the Terra next weekend. The other tire is a Scorpion MT90 for the rear of the Terra after it's done playing in the dirt. It's a good commuter/rain/easy dirt tire.

Uh, yeah, I could rail that outside line...on my 610 or my 165
