• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TERRAFORMERS

Wow, love that brake lever! Racks, skid plates, the folks are getting it done! We still need to get some chain guides going. My new BRP guide is hanging around waiting for a bracket. Sooner or later.....

Just about got the brake thing figured out. I took a brake pedal from an F800GS I grabbed off Ebay. It bolted right up using all the same hardware. I trimmed the front of it to shorten just a tad to clear the engine cover, cut the rear dog leg off original brake pedal and grafted it on to the modified F800GS pedal and came up with this. I am using the F800GS brake micro switch, pedal spring and plunger rod. I also welded a simple nut on the back of it installed an adjustable 5mm screw to actuate the micro switch. Only thing I want to do is get a longer screw (the large one just above the brake pedal) and put a collar on it to act as an up stop. I am also going to graft the correct connector plug to hook up to the original wiring plug for the brake micro. Will also devise a cover for the micro switch to protect and tidy it up. I did grab 2 of these levers off ebay in case I screwed something up so I will have one avail if anyone interested in doing the same.
Toyboy....TERRAFORMER #5!!! Nice adaption! Thanks for all the little details and I'll be looking for that lever in the mail. Also looking forward to seeing how you mount the front of that crash bar, if you decide to keep that one.

Is this picture confirmation that the Motosportz skid plate & this product can be used together?

Coffee,
These crash guards are from a BMW G650GS and only the 2 mounting points compatible, the same 2 the TR ones will be using. I could Fabricate a mount for the 3rd point under the rad there but I think I am going to wait for the TR ones Twisted Throttle is now going to carry. Will leave these in place for the time being. I have no doubt whatsoever that the TR ones from SW will bolt up just fine and will be compatible with the Motosportz skid plate.

You are very welcome. Will get the lever out for you by the weekend. Did you get my email on the micro switch? Same place i got both levers awhile ago. Since the TR crash guards are on the way from Twisted Throttle so to speak, I think I will leave these on just in case and get the purpose built ones for the TR.

I finished my racks tonight. Thanks for the pictures and detailed writeup. Try not to laugh, my welding skills are poor but I'm getting a lot better with the grinder.

I made a plywood frame to jig the parts up.

Nice work, D-O-M. Really digging the plywood jig. I've collected all the parts, but still been pondering my plan. The jigs a great idea which I will use. I promise my welding will make yours look professional.

I'm not fond of your outward forward facing lower flange at the peg bracket. Looks like it could jab your leg in a tip-over. I'm curious why you didn't flip that flange over to let it point rearward away from your leg?

Fab and me both flipped the bracket over the top of the foot peg tubes so that it engaged on two faces. It seemed the most solid way to do it. With the tube welded to the outward facing bracket DirtyOldMan will probably be fine though. I pulled my passenger pegs off, but will have to reinstall them as those peg brackets could do some real damage in a fall. Fab just trimmed the peg tubes flush with his brackets which eliminates the issue entirely. I may do the same with my cutoff blade. I'll never use the passenger pegs on this bike.

Toyboy looks good...... PM sent on spare lever......Have you thought about using a hydraulic switch to replace the bolt ???

Pm sent on lever, already gone..Hmm, not sure I follow what you mean by hydraulic switch. I did try to use a Husky master with the micro internal but it did not work.....

Yes, I did get the message, and thank you! Waiting for the purpose built guards is understandable. There is better coverage from what SW Motech offers. I like the way it wraps the radiator. At least you have some temporary protection on there.

Kind of what I am thinking. These will do for now but will just grab the TR ones and go that route. Biggest thing is that these are just about an inch short of extending completely beneath the rad. May take the TR ones and add a loop that parallels the black side panel to offer side protection to the rad as well.

Touratech adjustable folding tip $114....The bolt that connects the line to the master cylinder can be replaced with one that has a switch made in it. I have used them several times and they work well. Look for dualsport conversion parts or hydraulic switch.

I agree-------getting rid of that mechanical switch is way better-----I've did that on many bikes-----it's easy---just pull the banjo bolt out of the top of the master cylinder---replace the bolt with the switch--- and wire it in---------these kind of switches will never fail and are impervious to water, mud, etc.
These are available everywhere online. Most under $20 I think.

Found the folding tip brake F800GS lever and that would work except you will need to cut the pivot point the actuates the plunger to master off of the stock lever or fabricate one. The original is much deeper than the F800 design. I did take the master and mount it to the outside of its mounting point away from the swing-arm so to speak, but did not want any interference with boot etc and if I recall still wasn't quite enough to actuate teh master without a little binding.
Overall a good lever that can be mod-ed to work, certainly better that trying to source one from BMW, too expensive in comparison.
I understand what you mean about hyd micro switch. Will look for it and see if that might work better. thanks for tip.

Huh, I have the one off the Husky master. Will try it again. For some reason, it would not actuate the light. This is cool though, only 14.95. Will grab if I can't get this to work...
