  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Test rips... Andy's '09 WR125 (CR Hybrid)

darty, one BIG variable is still the timing. I went with ''as close as possible'' to wally's blue mark.

Others have posted this mark may have the timing retarded a degree. But I'm not going to question the performance at this mark. In race mode and at the end of 2 hours this mark may be the saving grace to finishing strong instead of hanging on for dear life! Has some of that predictable torque and pull...nice.

Thanx a million! Looks like you marked the seal as well. Is that where your key way is landing?

Actually this pic is from wally's bike in another post ''cr's only - wr's beware''. Truthfully, I never noticed the seal mark...not sure what it's about.

Got my Cr ignition tonight. On the stator plate it had perfect round washer marks from when it was bolted on in the past. The timing mark lands perfect on the edge of the casting. In other words the blue mark looks like it is about 1mm further in from where this one was set. Won't know 100% until the tool arrives. I also picked up a dial indicator and made a holder for it, drilling out an old spark plug and installed some set screws. It works good. I, as well, have to lengthen my wires and make a bracket this weekend for the CDI box. I have to order a 37.5/ 35 pilot just in case and also some other parts but will zero in on your settings.

If the weekend is decent, I'll set the timing a little more towards the lower edge. (Rotate counterclockwise) Closer to TDC.

Spec says stock timing is 4 degrees btdc. I think the consensus was that the 'blue mark' is most likely retarded 1 degree, or set around 5 degrees btdc.

I'll do some comparison videos, check the plug and see what Andy's take is...

Krieg, nice piece of equipment...can't believe it has an identiy crisis right out of the crate...weird!

If his bogs out of the crate he'll need the WR igntion

Hey, got the tool last night and raced back to the shop to dial it in. Looks like I am 180 degrees from where you guys set your mark. Good thing I had my bifocals on, that pointer sticking out can pokemon your eye out! It lined up perfect with my bifocal line! My vision is not what it once was, the older I'm getting. Thru my glasses, I saw 3 pointers, so I used the middle one. Maybe, I had it on backwards!

Just teasing! Actually, my mark is right on the money like the photo! All I need is a CR crank nut, some pilots, some odds and ends, and don't forget some lightning and Frankenhusky is alive!

Thanx!

Darin

Mod rundown...started with an '09 WR125

08 CR125 ignition
Stock TMXX 38mm carb
#5 slide
460 Main
37.5 Pilot
6CHY16-62 (RM/Darty) needle, 2nd slot down
AirScrew 2 out
BR9ES plug
Stock powervalve spring with Walts inner Silver
PV arm almost all the way up
FMF combo, Fatty with Turbine Core II Silencer
Klotz R50 Synthetic 40:1, highest octane pump gas

I do believe the combo of analog ignition and the large flywheel did in the 38mm carb. A lighter flywheel and the 36mm might have been the ticket. The digital curve and 13/52 gearing seems to allow the 38mm carb to work as designed. It will be interesting to see some major temp/humidity changes, but I'll deal with it.

My last piece of advice to the boy was...Figure out where the power is, fan the hell out of the clutch and rip it. Sometimes he listens!

Everyone should make sure to post race reports in the 'Racing' forum...we all love to read them and the season is upon us!

Good Luck Husqvarna125, make us proud!

Okay, got my Cr ignition on and dialed in. Pahusky, I used your carb settings exactly but my needle ran the best 4th slot down. You were on the money! The bike rips, no bog, no hick ups, revs up quick. So, I thought, wonder what would happen if I tried the PWK 38 AS striker with the Cr Ignition? I went back thru some jetting posts and MattR's seemed reasonable.. I went off of his exactly and seems to have a little more bottom end and rips up top as well! I think it works great with the CR ignition.

Here are the settings:

09 Wr125 with 02 Cr Ignition.
Ignition, Owners Manual setting
PWK 38AS
JD Blue Needle #4 position
Main 185
Pilot 48
Slide #7
Air Screw 1 1/2 turns out
Powervalve Stock/Walts Silver Spring 3/4 way up.
Amsoil Dominator 40:1
Fuel 97/Octane Booster
Stock Pipe/Stock Silencer

No bogs, no stumbles, no flat spots, runs great revs fast. This carb did not work with my WR Ignition.

I also got the 06 WR125 Dialed in today.

06 Wr 125
Wr Ignition, Retarded it 2 Degrees From Owners Manual
New 09 Cylinder/09 Powervalves
Carb Older TMX
Carb Dividers Front And Rear
Slide 3.0
Needle # 59 #4 Position
Main 460
Pilot 40
Fuel 97/Octane Booster
Air Screw 1 1/2 turns out
Dynoport Pipe
FMF TC II Silencer
Powervalve 3/4 Way Up with Stock and Walt's Siver Spring

Bike stands straight up in the air in 1st thru 3rd gears! It just totally rips 1st thru 6th! All I can say is it has one heck of a powerband! The bike also runs this good with the PWK 38 AS on it as well. I think it has a little more bottom end with the dividers in the TMX.

I started at 7am this morning and have tried about every carb and jetting combo possible on both bikes and even moved timing.

Why did you retard the timing on the '06?
GP

Was trying to see if I could get an ounce more of low end without affecting the top too much. At first I advanced it about a degree at a time then came back and tried retarding it. Seemed to work good.

Up dates:

I had time today to dig out an FMF Fatty pipe that came with the 06. First I heated all the dents and blew them out. Then I took the rear pipe bracket off and cut the stinger off. I fitted the pipe, heated the head pipe a little to pull the pipe a little away from the radiator hose. I then cut the stinger and rewelded it back on. I also welded the rear bracket back on, since it had to be relocated for the 09. The finish on it was pretty rusty so I just sandblasted the whole pipe and sprayed it black. I taped off around the FMF logo and left it shiny. Looks pretty good.

All I can say is that the 09 Wr 125, Cr Ignition, PWK 38, FMF Fatty Pipe and some in house porting and polishing has made this thing one heck of a ride!

Out of a scale of 10 Thumbs up, I give it a 10. I have had alot of 125's in my lifetime and this has been the best one after these mods.

Paid? I just do it for the enjoyment of tinkering with the bikes we love. If you had to make a living doing it it wouldn't be as enjoyable.

Some of us are fans and some are Fanatics...and then there's Darty...

Tough to keep up with that man...

If you are interested; and I know you are...
We have some closure on the modification outcome...Check "Andy's Report'' over in racing.

Awesome, Pat yourself on the back for dialing that one in and congrats to Andy! Am pretty darn proud of you guys!

Are you guys gonna run the one in Gosport, IN (Close to Indianapolis, in May)? My son and I are going to watch that one. Ask Andy if he needs for me to bring a spare # plate?
