Test rode a 11' 630 n wanting more

Hey all,
I have some questions after now riding the 630 yesterday. To give back ground i've rode mx n streetbikes all my life and i had a 06 smr450 for a yr doing 30-40 one way commutes w no problems. Broke my leg n sold it.

Is there any fixes for the vibrations? 630 seem to shake a lot at high revs/speeds. Not sure if it smooths out after you do pipe n pu mod's but man I was surprised by this.

Secondly, does any companies make a big bore kit or can you get high compression for them to get a little more hp?

It does weight close to 70lbs more then the 511 and the only reason I'm interested in the 630 is the killer price right now and that I commute 30-40 miles one way at times.. Not everyday. Dont want to blow a 9000$ hole in my pocket. Same reason I stopped looking at Ape sxv550's. Or am I mistaken and the 511 could handle fwy speed 75-80 for 30-40 at most?

I'd advise not to draw any conclusions about performance unless the 630 has at least the "power up" kit done. I don't think there are any owners that even consider running their bike in stock non powered up configuration. Vibration may have been related to the bike being new and running extremely lean.

My TE630 runs much smoother than the TE510 did. As for running the TE510 (non-counterbalancerd engine) at freeway speed for 30/40 miles.. notta..even with a 15/47 gear combo. My TE630 will easily handle 80 mph with stock gearing and with my mods. The problem I see at 80 mph is the lack of wind deflection since it is an unfared bike.

My 630SM has done 1000 miles and at present ive not fitted my p/u kit.Its makes a big difference once the miles are on , its smooth and pick up and idiling are much improved. Also see my post on fuel leak .

Fast1- thanks for your experiences. Yea I'm sure it will get better once everything breaks in but the bike I rode had 630 miles on it. It was completely stock. Wind really isn't the issue as 3/4 the time I'm riding my gsxr600 I'm sitting up as my back is sore leaving me straight on in the wind.. Sorta use to it here in Cali.

Tastytriples- yea sorta same as fast1. I'm sure it will all shake out good just would luv to have the option to beef it up for my hp to weight ratio

Hey GroffRacing, sounds like you know your way around a motorcyle. My 630 is bike #9. last 2 bikes were husabergs. At this point my 630 has the power up mod, fmf pipe, Jd tuner, bla bla bla. In my opinion (comparing to past bikes) the vibrations are just the nature of the big single jug. My husaberg 550 (similar to the husky 510----260lb bike---)had more vib's than the 630. I never noticed an change in the vibrations when i did the p/u mod to my 630. my 630 ran smooth when it was stock...just horribly guttless!!! I noticed small power gains from the p/u mod and FMF pipe. Then i put the JD tuner on and it felt like a dirt bike again. Throttle snaps, front tire lifts, bike hooks up. i have only ridden a husky 510 for about 15min. But compared to the 250lb KTM and husaberg stuff -the 630 is smoother on road. 630 front end geometry is raked out and more stable on hwy...it has the cush drive built into the clutch (from what i'm told), 630 has the high mile/low maint. engine. Suspention is sad and a couple other little things are cheezy - like crap foot pegs, foot peg bolts, rear sprocket mount bolts.
I have the same commute as you - 30miles one way. I roded my lighter 4strokes to work and i hated it. Although i would not consider the 630 a pleasure ride down the hwy at 70mph, its far better than the 250lb bikes with the lighter built engines and frame geometry geared towards trail riding. Yet, with the 630 (with the mods done) you can still ride pretty techincal single track. I'm certain you won't want a big boar kit after you do the 3 mods. And, yes, the price is what seals the deal.

Huh, I had the big TE out in the desert for the first time a couple of weekends ago. I was expecting really soft/dangerous suspension and was surprised at the speed I could carry. After 8 or so dirt bikes (last 3 were KTMs), I figured this would be a pig. Not even close.

To the OP's point; I was torn between the 511 and 630. My heart/dirt bike ways, wanted the 511, but after a month of going back and forth, I came to my senses and realized that I'd put 600 miles on roads for every 10 miles off road. That's just me and my situation. For this, the TE is a great choice. Cruises 75 effortlessly and the additional weight on the road is welcome.

I dropped the CS sprocket to a 14 for offroad, but didn't like the freeway manners afterwards. It got a little too course above 70 and I swithced back to the 15.

Shoolsema- thanks for your in-depth reply. I appreciate all these points cuz even though it's a killer deal rIght now your still dropping coin and I'd like to make the right one this time...
I hear yea on the mods makes the bike much better but I was just told if you pu your bike it voids ur warranty?
Also did you do a 2-1 pipe or duals? How much was fmf? How much was your jd tuner? Did you get a custom map done or you tweaked it yourself? I was thinking doing the PCV w/ AUTOTUNE might be best route to get a perfect as possible tune?

Joiseyjanet- I thank u for the links however I didn't feel it in the bars it was at the feet mostly and even on the seat.. Just felt the vibration. Guess I wasn't expecting it but not a deal breaker. Thanks though

I bought the TE for commuting, single track, and possible weekend get aways. I already own a Harley touring rig for interstate, but I've never been able to let go of dirt bikes. The TE is great, I moved up from a plated XR400. I added PCV, Auto Tune, Leo Vince single, Enduro Engineering bark busters, and an Uptite skid plate before it left Hall's. That all put it right back up to 9500 with tax out the door. Well worth it. I like the auto tune. This bike does not feel heavy to me compared to the XR. I dropped to a 14, and I like it on the interstate. The engine feels better in every gear with a 14cs, don't know why it's not stock. I have a 35 mile one way to work half two lane and the other interstate, it works well.

with the suspension i just don't think it's in same category as ktm/husaberg WP suspension. and i have read other complaints about this poor suspension on such a premium husky bike. but, its not a jumping bike and its still a pleasure to ride. Groffracing, I went to single fmf pipe - as you can see in the picture. pipe was $260. the catch is that the pipe is for a 2008 RMZ450 and you have to cut, bend and fab to make it work. JD tuner was $200 and you can change fuel delivery at all throttle positions on the fly. There are several ways to get the power out of the bike. what i did is probably one of cheapest routes, but not the prettiest.

The 510/511 is a dirtbike with a plate.
The 630 is a dualsport. It's a big trailie, it's not a 'dirtbike' as in Husky or KTM 450/500.

The smaller bike is horrible on the hiway at 70. The 630 is remarkably comfortable especially with some wind screen.

The bike vibrates because it's a big single. It's not horrible, it's just there. Everybody complains about vibration - just about all bikes vibrate except for the big street machines.

No one rides them without the power-up done. Stock it is leaned out to meet emission regs and runs too lean. There is no lack of punch once the PU mod is done. The meat of the powerband is 3700-5200. Not a lot of reason to rev it past that. With a knobby front anything over 75 just feels sketchy. With a 14T counter it runs at 5000 for 70mph, and still geared low enough for dual track offroad.

The suspension is fine for dualsporting. It's plush without being too soft, and soaks up washboard so you don't even know it's there. You can pile weight on it or a passenger and it still goes. If you're going to actually ride it on trails it should have the standard mods done, sprung and valved for your weight and add the compression damping adjust for the front. Most of us find it works just fine as delivered.

I don't commute by MC but have it setup for long distance and dirt roads. I have a Kawasaki Versys for mile munching on the hiway. BTW, all them owners whine about vibration too, and it's a parallel twin. It makes my nose itch from vibes, the TE doesn't...so there ya' go.
