Just done the first oil change myself on my 09 TE450 and I'm confused!
Still a newby at this so please excuse any stupidity.
I got the workshop manual so I'd have the torque figures for the various bolts, as I always like to do that at least the first time on something new to get a feel for it in case there's anything unusual. However the oil change page is less than clear. The numbers in the text don't seem to match up with the diagrams, and one phrase is still in the original Italian rather than English as the rest of the page is.
I think I've worked out what they're trying to say, but the one value I find hard to believe is for the plastic(?) plug which holds in the smaller of the two filters on the left side of the engine (the one nearer the front). This appears to require 25Nm (18.4ft/lb), which is exactly the same as for the drain plug underneath the engine (there's a separate page with a summary of torque figures and that also mentions 25Nm for "engine oil filter plug" which I guess must be this one?). Since the filter plug appears to be some sort of composite or plastic, and is M14 whereas the drain plug is M16, I'm surprised if it needs to be tightened with the same force and it feels like it would be way too much.
I'd also had a tip from Husky Sport's engineer about being careful with that plug, as he's had to chisel a few out where someone has damaged the hex socket by trying to overtighten it till the corners rounded off, so I'd rather avoid that!
Anyone know for sure what the correct torque is for the filter plug, or failing that do you tighten it up with similar force to the drain plug or noticeably less? TIA for any help.
