I mounted the top case from my '02 R1150RT on my TR a few months ago using the stock luggage rack and a RT top case mount I found on eBay. I like the RT system cases. They are roomy, waterproof, and very rugged. I can't ride both bikes at once and I wanted a lockable compartment for when carried my laptop or other valuables. I wasn't entirely happy with the stock rack configuration so I put the AltRider rack back on and brainstormed. This particular case likes to sit more or less level so this is what I came up with:
I used a 11 3/4" long piece of 3" Sch40 DWV drain pipe, some nylon bushings, and an assortment of 1/4x20 bolts and nylon lock nuts.
I had intended to paint the PVC spacer black but it matches the bike quite well, as do the end caps which turn the spacer into a truly watertight tube for storing tools and or parts. Be a great place for tire irons. Used two Oatey pressure tester plugs as the end caps.
It's super rigid and would work with about any type of top case and mount and there's enough room on the empty rack for a nylon tail bag for more vigorous off road than I'd feel comfortable with using that System Case.
