    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hi , has anyone tried different oil in the Terra? My bike came with Motul I tried BelRay but it runs better with Motul ( all my other prior bikes have run better with BelRay than Motul ) Has anyone tried different oil brands and what was the experience?
 
I have had lots of bikes and had lots of different oils in all of them, and I can honestly say that I have never been able to detect a difference in how well any of them ran from one oil to the next. There were some where I feel like I perceived a difference in how the bike shifted, but not how it ran. And even that may have been psychological.

I replaced the factory fill with Rotella for the first oil change. Can't tell a difference.

I decided to stick with the manuals recommendation of "Castrol Power 1 Racing SAW 10w-50" also cant tell any difference from the factory oil.
 
I did my second oil & filter change at 10,000km last week. I was very impressed at how clean the oil was compared to my KLX which seems to show noticeable clutch material. Magnet was also clean. Replaced the filter with a BMW item as my Husky dealer didn't have a genuine part on the shelf. The BMW filter was nearly 1/2 price which surprised me. Filled the crankcase with Mobil 1 4T 15W-50 which I have lots of thanks to a stock write-down at work.

My dealer doesn't even stock the OEM filter. They keep the applicable K&N filter on the shelf. I noticed they even used a K&N filter when they did the 10k service. From memory, about 1/2 the price of the OEM filter (which was a BMW filter with the local Husqvarna distributor's sticker stuck on top of the BMW sticker.
 
I run Mobil 1 20w-50 full synthetic Motorcycle oil in mine. I've run this oil in a few bikes with shared tranny oil and it seems to shift pretty nicely. I've also tried a few different oils over the years and I'd agree with gullywasher that the most noticeable difference is usually the shifting. Sometimes you can see a difference in oil consumption, but rarely.

Most of my riding is in warmer weather so I pretty much stick to the thicker oils, but really prefer the full synthetic stuff.

K&P make a stainless oil filter - I've used these in all myother bikes since the 1990's
As for oils, Motorex Cross Power 10w60 is working fine
I us a 5w-40 in my multi cyliner bikes
Always full synthetic
 
Shell Rotella T6 full synthetic 5w40 for $16 at Wallymart and a KN 151 filter for $6 at my local auto parts store. Have used the Rotella T 6 in pretty much all my bikes. The wifeys Versys has 36 000 miles and my Terra 18 000 miles in temperatures ranging from the mid 20s to 100 degrees F with no problems using the T6.
 
My take on oils:- the crankshaft main bearings are plain bearings/bushes, conventional thinking is to use more viscous (thicker) oils to maintain & build-up "wedge", I don't know what the big-end bearing is, a bush or a roller bearing, if a bush (or sleeve) thick oil would be the normal thing, if roller bearing requires thinner oil for greater flow for cooling
The Motorex oil is a 10w60, full synthetic - works for me so will probably continue to do so

Hi Gullywasher , i think you are right the Belray was 10 40 and the Motul as 10 50 that was the difference nothing to do with the oil brand
