• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TR650 Crash bars

Seems like the racks are simple enough that they just require a pipe bender and welder. You can design and order the brackets they are cheap but everything else it would seem to be cheaper to make yourself.

I just got back home with my new tubing bender.

I contacted Alt Rider and although I placed an order months ago, they say shipping in 4 to 6 weeks! If someone else is getting them much sooner, then I guess they blew me off. I really wanted these things for my summer trips, but I guess I'll just have to avoid any falls, which I try to do anyway. Very dissapointing.

Hey Kenneth, I just called and the lady said they are shipping on the 26th June - no changes expected.
Since yesterday morning 2 people said they were told they are shipping next week and 2 people were told 4-6 weeks from yesterday.

Thank you for letting me know someone might be in the office, much appreciated.

I just cancelled my order on the bars a the bash plate. After spending $330 on a new radiator I decided it was time. I like the SWMotech kit just fine. I have a trip coming up and knowing the bike is protected trumps the slight aesthetic advantage Altrider has in the pics.
Knowing my luck I have just insured speedy delivery of all pre-ordered Altrider gear. You are welcome :)

To those of you who have switched your crash bars from Altrider to sw-motech, do you believe them to be of equal quality and protection?

From what I'm seeing the quality and protection of something is better than nothing, seems to be the trend.

It's pretty disappointing to see this all play out, we've got a company that wants to bring products out for this bike, they sponsored this little site and came on here to get the customer opinions and get involved with the community. The TR might be the hottest selling Husky, but let's face it, it's still a Husky and there is not a lot of demand. It's expensive to bring new product to market. Pre-orders help offset the initial capital required and to gauge the real demand. I hope all of these cancellations are not going to make them cross this model off their list for future products.

Well, I can't really speak to what Altrider plans, but I would rather wait for the better product. Those who have received their SW BARS, can give me some sense of how they feel about their purchase, especially since the current ship date is so close for the Altrider product.

I ordered my bars just as soon as they came up on their web site. If not the same day, then within one or two. They evidently kicked me to the back of the line as I can't believe I didn't request them in the first group. I knew I had some serious rides coming up, and really need them. If I knew they would not get me into the first batch I would have made other arrangements. Now I am SOL! Not a happy camper for sure. I never heard a word from them either. Of course, maybe I was just imagining placing my order, but I don't think so. I really should just go ahead and cancel my order for now as there is no use for them to ship to my home when I'm out riding for several months. 'Haven't done it yet, but I may. Alt Rider's customer service and care could sure be a lot better. A telephone call or email is so easy to place. Grrrrrrrrr!

Well, if they show up on my door step before I leave for Colorado, I will certainly be happy and take back everything I said above. But my card has not yet been charged, and they said they would not until the product was shipped. They checked on my name and said 4 to 6 weeks. We'll see.

That makes me nervous! I know i can have both bars and skid plate from SW-Motech next week from Twisted Throttle. I am willing to wait a little longer but the track record doesnt instill confidence. I think the Altrider product will likely be better but how long to wait is the question.
