• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Sorry Ken, I just couldn't help myself! I am just super excited about this whole thing. I love this bike. I love riding it, looking at it, working on it, and doing things to make it my own. Just the idea of having two Terra's in the shop is exciting! Oh, and ya...leave the shorts at home.:)
 
Well if you change your mind I have plenty of gear for on/offroad you could use. I'm excited to see how everything turns out
 
I realize you'll be all bizzy and giddy as a couple o' school girls this coming week. But whilst deeply engrossed in this transformative process, any chance you get to snap a shot or two, just to keep us all drooling would be fab.....no pun' intended mate!

Ken will be starting a new thread on the project when he gets here, so there should be lots of pics. We want it to be just like you were here.

I got a little head start on my luggage racks. The mount on the left is one of two that are pre bent and welded that Ken bought from BR Moto and had sent here for his bike and the other two are the ones I bent this evening and got the tig welder dialed in for the tubing we will be welding. As you can see, I am approaching it a little differently. I also have the pieces milled and ready to bore in the lathe for the risers. Here are some pics.

Nice Jason! I am more or less snowed in here in the Springs until the snow melts tomorrow. The bike is at Woodys mow and i should pick it up tomorrow and take it to Big D for MOSS treatment. That is assuming BMW gets the needed info for the MOSS to Big D. Next week, fabrication time!

After seeing what Bigdog and FabOneUp have been up to, I hesitate to post pics of my project. Thankfully the cameras poor resolution makes the welds look 'not so bad'. I should have payed more attention in Mr. Jacksons welding class. Or bought a better welder. Or done both. I used some Happytrails KLR racks. Hacked off the bottom arm and relocated it more towards the center. I pulled the passenger pegs and tied into that bracket instead of the higher up factory location. Seems like a better angle. Was able to use the upper arms 'as is' to bolt to a fixture I fab'd to utilize the forward most rack bolt hole. It turned out to be very solid. The bags are Ortlieb Backroller City. Made for bicycling they have two quick release clips up top and one arm that fits around the rack on the bottom. I never had an issue when I bicycled with them, but I never rode at 65 mph either. I ordered some more upper clips to add to the bottom if needed. I'll make them work. I have to...........they are the RIGHT color.100_1620.jpg

Right color indeed! I had a yellow set on an F800 also in yellow and loved them bags, real good value, but attachment definitely needs help. But great job all round, some really inspiring Terra's beginning to manifest here! What's the screen, looks vaguely familiar, national cycle?

Good eye ! Yea its a National Deflector. Fits well and does a decent job.

Nice work dangslow. It all looks fantastic! Can we get a close up of what you have done with the skid plate?
 
Excellent job on the pannier racks Dangslow. I would not have picked them as being home-(re)fabricated.
