    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Trailtech Vapor on a SM630

dst, rt, odo, art, clock and if the tach gets sorted -the shift indicator lights. I do sometimes listen to music while I ride so the lights are a nice visual cue. Still need to install the temp sensor in the coolant line. I do have the dashboard indicator lights, but I haven't installed them yet. I'm hoping this will be my replacement display once the oem dies, whenever that day comes.

As for the tach issue, I finally had to ask for a replacement. We were both out of ideas. So, I'll be shipping them my Vapor for a diagnostic test to determine if it's faulty. If it is, they'll be happy to send me a new one. The TE 630 is on their "fitment list for testing", but they don't currently have access to one. It "could take some time".
 
Well, Trailtech sent me a new replacement Vapor. No mention if the old one was defective or not. I put it on the bike yesterday and it exhibited the exact same behaviour. More than an inch on the plug wire the reading would jump. This is at idle. If I could've wrapped it a few times and gotten a stable reading I would've tested it further by going for a ride, but I felt it was going to be a waste of time. Might pick up a Koso instead.
 
did the coil hookup already with mixed results. it worked perfectly somedays for the first 20min or so of a ride, then the readings would jump. sometimes it would jump right at the start. can't be the coil since the bike has a healtech GI that's been working flawlessly.
 
Dang. I was hoping it would be a good alternative speedometer setup for our bikes. I wonder if it is just receiving too much interference from some other component on the bike like the EFI or fuel pump.
 
At one point I went as far as using shielded coaxial cable for the signal wire. It didn't do diddly squat.
 
LawnDartMike, would you be willing to test this unit on your bike if I sent it to you? I'm really curious if it's just my bike or 630's in general. Cover the shipping cost to you and it's yours. I could sell it, but I'd rather get to the bottom of this problem instead. Then post up your results after testing.
 
Does anyone have a 610 without speedo problems? I just bought an 06 SM 610 and haven't recieved it yet, but is this something I should be looking forward too? My MTB (bicycle) has a magnet on a spoke for speedo. Is this the way the speedo works on the 610/630?
 
There's a magnet in the brake rotor on the 630. My gauge cluster wasn't water tight from the factory. I got a new one under warranty and it's been fine. The sucky thing about that is now my odometer and hours meter were reset to zero.
 
There's no way to transfer the old hours to the new dash. I have logged the old hours/miles. So it's just a matter of doing some math. It just kind of sucks that I can't look at the dash and know.
