• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE/TC Tranny oil??

I use dex merc atf

When I first got my 1999 360 WR I had a big problem with clutch drag. I switched to ATF and have only had the bottom end apart once for a rod replacement. The clutch is original except for filing the edges of the basket and the tranny has never had a hiccup in all those years. My Te 300 is still new and I have a problem with getting into neutral which brought me to this thread.

Its nice to know people still like to disscuss oils, some try to sabatoge it by turning it into a hate thread because they have little patience teaching or helping. But yes my neutral can be a bugger once in a while, i miss gears more than this though, but its usually my own fault. I dont have enough years under my belt to give you an answer but i bet if you did real tests on engine/gear wear on 2t i bet both oil and atf are fine, but not just any oil or any trans, theres enough knowledge on this site to narrow down to 5 choices either way. I hope you find your answers, te300 is a solid machine.

the cafe is the only place i know of to discuss oil without things going crazy..
that being said..im in the rotella t6 camp for bottom end oil, 5w-40..out of a few different atf oils and a few engine oils, i notice the least amount of shavings on the magnet with it. still shifts well and has good oil analysis results on my past 2 streetbikes..
type f atf is closer to 20w instead of 10w like most..atf does shift well.
these observations are on a good few swedes, one italian, and a few other older bikes. not a brand new bike.

My experience is different bikes like different oils. My old XR likes Spectro 10-40, wr300 with Rekluse lines Mob1 0-40, but the 165 seems to want a heavier oil. I've got t6 in it, but still not shifting smooth and some clutch fade. Now it needs a clutch pack, so going to see how it acts with fresh plates.

My WR was running 20w-50 semi synthetic when I bought it. Works great so I stick with it. The old IT runs 85w Spectro gear oil and is fine.

The Dealership i got my 2015 TE300 from recommends the Bel-Ray 80w Gear saver transmission oil, that's what i use in mine & shifts smooth & nuetral is easy to find. First change at 10 hours and second at 30 hours.
