• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TT

Interesting thread to say the least.
I love this place for a lot of reasons. Members seem to be a cut above most other forums I've been to. People are honest, act very mature, are very helpful and we are all on the same page when it comes to our Huskys.

Although a lot of us own other makes (Some more then others... Kelly) I don't think we should branch out to a "other bike forum"...If we want to talk about our other bikes than there are other forums for that. I'm sure there are a lot of us who visit these places on a regular basis. JMO.

At first I was reluctant to think other brands was a good idea. Then I thought about how things are at Brit Bike. http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=cfrm
I go there at least once a day and it actually has an atmosphere similar to this one and it is huge. All the major brands have a place.
The owner of the forum is John Healy, who is legendary in the world of British iron, especially Triumph.
It may have something to do with the "maturity" of the average vintage bike owner. I suspect it does. Could the Cafe Husky be the same if there were places for Yam, Honda and Kaw(no offense DD:)). It may not matter. At Brit Bike each brand is like its own little world. People get to know each other and all is good.

Good questions.

It appears some of them are going to the Vintage Motorcycle Days in Ohio in July. Perhaps a chance to meet. :)

How about if you own a Husky first, you can join the "other bikes" section? LOL
I think this topic is going well Dean, I can't wait to see how it pans out.

My vote is for adding the other bikes. I've met some really good people over there years on ditrbike forums, TT being one of them. The demographic of this site is so small that I have yet to meet and ride with anyone off of this site. I'm not saying that this is the sole purpose of dirtbike forums, but I do think that adding some diversity to this site would only add to the positives as long as Coffee keeps up the good work and keeps the quality at the standard it is at now. You'll always get some bad apples when you offer a site to the whole world, but Coffee does such a good job of making everyone aware of what is expected I can only see good things coming out of it. Just my opinion. Brad.

I'm brand new to DS riding (I don't even actually have my new bike yet), but not new to riding and definitely not new to forums. I am also a software developer, so I have a sense of what is and isn't good design.

TT was changed just a few weeks after I signed up, and I can't stand it. I haven't been back to that site in almost a month. The pages load slowly, the interface is full of bugs (I can't even change my avatar, for example), it's non-intuitive and isn't similar to any other forum I use (all the other forums use vBulletin). It also loads very slowly on my iPhone. Most forums I use have a mobile skin, but those that don't, I just deal with the slower load times of the full site. Even in full mode, vBulletin is pretty speedy.

There was a big thread on TT full of people complaining about the new format. That thread mysteriously disappeared. Rather than taking any sort of criticism from their users, the theads are just deleted. That was the dealbreaker for me.

I actually considered making my own version of TT using vBulletin, but I really don't have the time and money to devote to it.

This is as good of a thread as any to wake up.

Apparently the huddler version of TT is still up. If you want to go grab your PMs or thread/post data made in on the huddler version of software go grab it asap. My guess is that forum will be put behind a password protected directory soon. I *seriously* doubt this link is supposed to be publicized.

Yep. Looks like they realized that the "upgrade" was a mistake. Funny though how it being so slow forced me to not go there and I came to realize that I didn't miss it.... :D

TT is no longer user friendly. It's just not enjoyable to navigate around the site anymore. Many of the regulars in the Southwest section have "disappeared" from the site all together.

I being one of them...too politically correctness required...too many whiners...idiots or should I say members with STUPID questions, etc.

At least someone gets it.

I do not understand some of the negativity, I am not suggesting that the forum change, at all. I *really* do think we are different, in a good way, from other forums.

This is a High Class forum, or at least that is the goal, if there are other like minded nice people seeking refuge, I think they should be participate and exchange ideas. Places like cafe husky are not that easy to find, and it would bother me greatly to turn good people away, and that would certainly not be high class on my part.

I would like to think by now you should have a clear idea that I really want to keep this a nice place. There really are good people that ride other brands.

In any event, I won't put up a 'other bikes' forum at this time. I did however put up a notice for guest to read to let them know what this forum is all about - which should have been put up a long time ago  In addition, I've said we also talk about other brands.

edit: Here is what the people not logged in will see:
Hi! You are viewing Cafe Husky as a guest, this site is all about Husqvarna motorcycles but other bikes are also discussed. Please feel free to join up if you like. We think it is a nice place, you might think so too. :)

I agree...compared to "the other site" I frequent (not TT) this is mellow, even the background coloring is soothing, kind of like elevator music. Another forum that's open to "other bikes" wouldn't be a bad thing...my .02 worth

The idea of allowing us a chance to discuss other bikes sounds like a great idea....but it all depends on the execution. As has been mention, a simple section for all "other bikes" would be a great way to give people access to knowledge about a variety of bikes, without taking over the forum. The other benefit, it people may come here looking for info. on their "other bike" and find themselves becoming Husky fans, which is good for all of us.

A few weeks ago, someone posted a link for a company that has a supply of Rotax parts. It just so happened my Rotax broke a rocker arm. I called the company and received the parts 2 days after ordering! It would be great to get more info. the people here about other bikes as well (like my Triumph in my Avatar!)

I would think an "other bike" addition would be cool, as dirtdame said, I too own other brands, green, Like them alot.
