• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Tweety Bird Exhaust Note

Depends where you go. Gifford Pinchot National Forest requires: All power saws and motor bikes are required to have an approved spark arrestor installed while operating on the national forest.

Okay now I'm wondering if the square ones have cats in them? The exhaust on my bike doesn't smell very rotten-egg-like in comparison to my car. Although both the Terra & Strada sold in the US would have to have cats in them. I'm not sure about our local laws with bikes having to have cats as my KLX didn't yet a US KLX does. I am really curious to know the reasons for different cans!

the square ones do have cats in them. see this pic:

Mine's got square holes in the back, vin ends in 3653. purchased in NJ.

Strada right? Yup thems the cats! WOW....they take up a lotta space! Seeing that you are the only pcv/at enabled/installed TR owner thus far (including the VP of sales at Dynojet!) I vote you gut those fuggers and see what kinda flow you can get! Sucks that we have yet to see an aftermarket intake option! I tried to open up the top of the air box when installing my PCV to see what all that space was needed for...but it involved a lot more work than I wanted to deal with at the time. I felt around inside the filter area and it seemed to be a bit restrictive. I wonder what a "pod" filter would gain us? Not practical for deep water crossings but interesting to see none the less.

I thought red exhaust tips would look nice on these pipes, so I used a couple of 1" steel split spacers that I had left over from some project, and forced them over the end of the arrestors. Over these I slid on 1 1/8" bicycle headset/stem spacers. Got the look I was going for AND got rid of the tweet. I think it may have been caused by the exhaust gas passing over the holes in the arrestors. Sort of like blowing over the top of a bottle of your favorite adult beverage. No holes.......no tweet.

I know this is an old thread, but I did not all see this was definitely resolved. The chirping on my bike just escalated to the point that I had to address it. I pulled the spark arrestor out and lubed it with anti-sieze - no change. I then plugged the holes of the inner pipe by shoving surgical tubing around the perimeter of the inner pipe. GONE. The chirping is indeed a whistle as the gas flows by the holes in the inner pipe at just the right rate. Those holes are there to allow for removing the spark arrestor. I will need to find a more permanent solution obviously, but I thought I would share my discovery.9FEFDDD9-8508-4076-995D-3837293582EA.jpeg BC3C9083-168F-412F-91BA-8DCA8585967D.jpeg
