    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just got an 08 te 450 used w/ 133 miles. owner knew nothing about bikes and hadnt changed the oil. (ahhhhh). he lost all the manuals etc so i was wondering what type of gas goes in this thing. Im guessing 91 (premium) based on the 12.9:1 compression ratio but i thought id ask before i made a mistake. also does it matter if i put in the wrong gas? what could this do?

Does the power up kit make this bike a little harder to stall? i have had some problems with the short stroke motor stalling on slower more technical single track. it seems VERY lean at low rpms. snapply throttle tho :)

"Power up kit" Locks your bike in "Race" mode gives you a different map on your FI. As long as you install the plug with the kit that takes the place of your O2 sensor. But make it harder to stall...I don't know about that. Go up a couple of teeth on the rear sprocket will help a lot on S/T stuff.
You could get some knocking or pinging if you don't use premium. I think the manual say 98 ron or higher. Best we got around here is 94.
I've used 92 and it seems Ok.
 
Not sure about there in CA, but here in PA we can still get gas with no ethenol in it at select stations. My bike has no pinging/predetonation when I run the high grade without any ethinol, but if I use high grade with ethinol it pings.
 
With only 133 miles the engine and suspension are only one third run in. The motor will free up significantly and it will lug much better in the tight. This will see less stalling.
Use the best fuel available preferably without ethanol.

Interesting..have you ever tried the lower grades that do not have ethanol?
 
Never even thought to try lower grades since the manual states to use a higher octane than what's available at the pump here in PA (93 is the highest I've found). Funny because my wife's 2007 700 Yamaha Grizzly (FI also) manual states to use low grade 87 octane - which I do and it runs fine. Maybe I'll give it a whirl.
 
I've run regualr in mine and it's fine.
I do run high test, 93 and it runs a bit better.
I went down 1 tooth in the front, installed power up kit, has about 300 miles and runs much better than it did new. They are corked up from the factory.
