At least you guys can get them, I saw the Terra/ Strada last year at our bike show, but none ever made it to the sales room floors. I'm jot sure there are any in Canada.
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
The only ones I could find were the ebay chinese models. People have had good luck with them, but I just don't buy chinese if I can help it and it isn't leaking, it's just a bit rough from being bent back into shape so many times.
Strada sale price $5599 (don't expect to find that low again though, I'd gladly pay more)
+ sales tax
+state license & registration fees
+ dealer document fee $65
NO setup or shipping fees
$6293.26 OTD![]()

Hey Cosmo, I hear your frustration. But I would posit that of the 1000s of Tr650s sold only a handful of owners (counted on fingers and toes) have reported a major parts delay or issue. That's pretty impressive considering the swap over is less than a year old. My new radiator took days, even in the factory shutdown. And the torx bolt I stripped, took about a week despite a holiday weekend.
My experience is that if one dealer isn't helpful, try another. With modern shipping and the inter-webs damn near anything is only a search and a UPS shipment away. These bikes are excellent and a great value. It seems that way more folks are fully satisfied and not having issue (parts or otherwise) than the other way around. Just my 2 cents.
I can understand your frustration. The dealer I bought my TE from promised to continue to support the brand and they kinda had too as they had sold a ton of bikes and would have had a lot of pissed off locals. Thankfully they picked up KTM and I don't expect any issues going forward.
If you can find a decent dealer I think it's worth the minor risk involved. What other bikes are on your radar?
#1 choice: KTM 1190 Adventure (road version), but OMG the $$$$s!
Yamaha Super T, but I hear they are a little sluggish.
Honda NC, but if I go for a twin, I'd want to go for a 1100.
Ducati Multi Strada, but OMG the $$$$s! Plus, I hear they break easy and have, of all things, parts distribution issues. And, I've been told the BMW actually handles better on-road.
BMW's big GS, but OMG the $$$$s! Plus, there's nothing in them that I can fix myself.
If these are the bikes on your radar, I'm curious why you were even looking at a TR650, it's nothing like what you obviously want to ride.
I'm jealous as all hell. When did you buy? I paid my price around August, 2013. Maybe I should have done more research. :\
Soooo.... my KLR can do all of 55 MPH for any length of time. Maybe up to 70, but that's at 6000-6500 RPM, can't recall. I'm not comfortable doing that level of RPM for long periods of time on the old KLR. I assume the Strada is a 6 speed? What kind of RPMs are you guys spinning at 80 MPH? Can you run it at that speed for hours on end?
When I use the bike to go fly fishing up north, I load it up with food, water and gear. And I'm usually doing a 10 - 11 PM mad freeway rush to get home. Would be nice to be able to put a radar detector on there and fly home at 80 on some of those middle of nowhere freeway stretches.
I've run 80mph on the freeway fully loaded (hard bags + duffles + my 235# fat ass) with no issue and still had power to pass. And that was on my stock Terra tires. It's actually a 5 speed but works well. I've hit 90 a few times but never sustained it.
