  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Verify Torque spec please on SMR 510 manual is contradicting

Putting some new rubber on, bike is a '06 SMR 510. At one spot in the manual it says the torque spec for the front and rear axles is 104.8 ft/lbs (this is in the torque specs section) But in the "removing the front wheel" section, it says to torque the front axle bolt (the one with the 12mm allen) to 38 ft/lbs. And in the "removing the rear wheel" section is does not mention torque specs at all. Please help :banghead:
I know on my dirt bikes the torque specs were around 80 ft/lbs front and rear....

I don't have an SMR but I have the 09 workshop manual which covers the SMR. I suppose it could have changed since the '06 but FWIW in this version the "Torque Wrench Settings" section doesn't say 104.8 ft/lb anywhere for the front axle, it only says that for the large nut on the rear axle.

For the front axle it mentions:

Front wheel axle fastening screw (SMR) M10x1,5: 38 ft/lb

Front wheel axle fastening screw M6x1: 7.7 ft/lb (don't know whether these apply to the SMR but they're the bolts which pinch the clamp around the axle on the TE)

Hope this helps.

ok cool thanks thats what I figured, cuz when I took it off it didnt feel like 104 ft lbs. Thansk for clarifying
