• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Vintage racing pics

Have not started yet. Just got a good mig welder for aluminum Eastwood 175 with spool welder for aluminum and a bottle of pure argon. The seasoned weldor I work with confirmed I was on the right track. The wire is 4043 .030 wire. He also told me argon is used in place of helium now for aluminum. More stabilty. The head is currently in an engine mockup for my TT500 developement project
Wow, your not messin around! Do you have a thread on the project somewhere? If not, let us know how it went here. My Dad did a repair on an air cooled aluminum head with almost exactly (different brand welder, but same amperage) the same set up you got and it went very well.

Getting back to the topic.... here's an old "not quite" vintage shot of me on a husky in 1985 at the Bert Flood Enduro final special test.

Thats a silly place to leave a tree! What happened to your disk brake? Dingo take it? Good pic though, I just got ones of me falling off about that time (still at primary school then obviously).

Th Wednesday b4 the race i had a bad attack of the "tom tits" which floored me and on friday i was going to cancel but fronted up ok on saturday so off to the race.... that photo was taken near the end of the special test and i had about 30 seconds to make the old country dunny before all hell was going to be let loose:eek: so nothing was gettin in my way... i made the final control, yelled my number and pinned it straight into the dunny doors, jumped into the nearest slot and just made the target:notworthy: Got a gold medal thanks to that tummy bug

I brought the whole project in my basement last week so I can have more space available in my barn but continue the exhaust developement I started on it where it is somewhat more convenient and warmer than the barn. I am working out the build on the stock frame and also an HL500 build on a 78 OR frame that will have a KX 125 steering neck welded in to allow Kawasaki and Suzuki Kayaba front ends to be used. I would like to detail here but not sure it would be welcomed as it is a non Husqvarna build.

Ya...that welder is going to come in handy. If you do a thread, be sure to post the link here so we can find it.

Wow. That is really a fantastic shot of a vintage racer.
Thank you! I took the photo from the original photo. It and all the pics I have posted here were taken back in the day by a guy from Colorado Springs known simply as " The picture man". If I remember correctly, he use to race a lot and would take these pics at the events he rode. These were all 8x10's. He is still alive and well...and still racing!

This is open expert Walter Nitto on his 1978 CR 390. Photo taken in 78 at Bridgehampton Raceway on Long Island NY. After ~35 years or so I was able to send Walter this and another photo after seeing him on another mx site. He was quite happy to have them!

its usually you guys destroying the native vernacular but this time your right (stuuupid spellcheck:mad:)

Hey great photo of Mr Nitto, did he make electrical tape:confused:

He is really hammering it there.. if he is going straight its nice, if he is travelling right to left, it could be ugly

Suprize,

Dont think Walt was involved in electrical tape :-)

He is coming off a jump out of the back section in these photos and moving in a straight line.

Bridgehampton really was some fantastic track. The famous road race course is at the same location. The first car raced with a wing was the Jim Hall Can Am car at Bridgehampton. A number of CanAm races were held there with all the big name drivers of the day.

Here is the other picture of Walt that I had. He was kicking his legs back and forth over this jump on every lap. Walt was a wild man and fun to watch! There was such great racing there!

Lyndon Fox posted very nice video of Bridgehampton on youtube. Here is the link for those interested.
