• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Went to the dark side....

Why doesn't Yammie smarten up and offer a YZ300x with e-start and bigger tank. I keep scratching my head on that one. I loved my 99 YZ250, but it's not a 300...

I agree the X model should have at least a 2.5 gal tank but people would still complain that it wasn't a 3 gal or bigger. There's several big tank choices for the 05-17 YZs and they are priced better than about any tank for any other brand... In fact most of the 2 stroke YZ add-ons are priced lower than the rest. E-start would be cool but it would involve a complete redesign of the engine. I think a big reason the YZs are priced lower is because they've been basically the same for 12 years. The 125s are still winning the magazine shoot outs.

Yeah, I liked my YZ250, but it was a little pipey in the woods. More so with my 01 520 EXC. The 300 engine just seems to have that magic grunt/power factor that offroad riders love. I didn't mean to offend on the new bike, I loved my 99 YZ250 till it started having intermittent electrical issues. Got top dollar for it an auction surprisingly... I just wish Yamaha would listen a little closer to the off-road market. Seems like they have dipped their toe in the water and I commend them on the YZ250X.

I just want them to dive on in... with a YZ300x...

Come on Yamaha...

"YOU CAN DO IT****************************************!"

You didn't offend me at all... but have you rode the X? it is not a YZ250 with a kickstand..... they most have changed the porting some because this thing is just as good as my TE300 on hills.... in fact its almost better because when you need a little more you just twist the grip and it comes on smooth..... and it handles the tight stuff much better.... Estart would be nice but I never had to kick it twice all day and I never "stalled" it.... Ya not sure why it came with a dinky tank I put an IMS tank on it and it doesn't get in the way at all.... and the forks on this bike are every bit as good as the AER and I don't have to worry about blowing a "spring" or a revalve....

Test 2 will be this weekend at the Muddobbers Enduro

good call Ron. this ain't no yz250. im sure it mostly comes down to engine management system and ignition mass for the x, maybe compression. we can check those specs and P/Ns, but without going there I would bet the YZ and YZ-X are mechanically the same and that they just tuned the ignition map. Not that that even matters, from Ron and the others that have ridden this machine its an off road enduro engineered racing machine based on their top tier MX racing version.

When the time comes to retire the 06 from racing and I elect to stay in the lightweight class (200-250cc) this bike will certainly be in the running.

I'm kinda bummed I steered clear of the YZ for the past few years.... I'm kinda weird in that I like to ride something everyone else has.... Husky was always a good option because it was a good bike and "odd".... but lately KTM has been pumping tons of cash into husky and now they are almost as common as a KTM which are like AHoles here (everyone has one)....

But in all seriousness its a very good bike....

If the bike is that good everyone will have one of those soon as well. I have seen more of the yams in my area by far than husky but not Ktm. I'm glad to hear the one of the jap outfits is trying to give Ktm some competition.

I read that the X has a different cylinder with different port timing for smoother power and more mid power.

I agree its nice to see the off road models getting some love from the Japs... and not some BS WR250 that's a totally POS.....

This thing does have some serious meat in the middle.... when you come up to something you need to wheelie over be it a puddle, creek, log, rock pile its no lift no clutch just a slight twist and it pulls a nice easy wheelie that you can carry....
