• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

What are you wearing - for protection?

My current setup -

- TXC Comp2 boots
- Answer seven pants/jersey
- Answer seven or 661 helmet
- Answer seven gloves
- POD K700 knee braces
- Answer kidney belt
- Looking at an EVS neck brace at the moment.

troy lee design helmet- great
leatt neck brace- works but not most comfortable
leatt chest protector- light but wish it had more protection
fox 360 pant jersey - great
thor knee brace- cheap and good
fox knee brace socks - works good
alpinestar tech 7 boots- great second pair
fox shorts protection- great stop monkey but and extra padding on hips
evs elbow pads - cheap and work some guys say cause arm pump but worth extra protection.

Seems like it take me longer to dress than I ride sometimes but worth the the extra time I do not bounce as good as I use to anymore HA HA.

Neesmo31 go with alphinestar or leatt neck brace work better.

Yeah got a awesome quote for a Leatte GPX club that i cannot pass up :) So will pick that up this afternoon.

I can't be the only one who saw the thread title in the main forum and thought "Trojans".

Nah. Many thought it, I'm sure, and even mentally added "ribbed...for her pleasure." Gotta love the power of advertising. Anyway, deepcdiver and lankydoug reacted first in post #'s 10 and 14.

To fix up my post I have:
Full Answer Seven Helmet/Gloves/Jersey/Pants
Leatte GPX neck brace
POD K700
TCX Comp2
661 Kidney Belt
Ariette Googles

one piece aerostitch. dainese back protect. sidi race boots. shark rs2 helmet. a star sp plus gloves. summer.. just ordered. revit kelvin gloves for winter..

summer is dainese 2 piece leathers.. perforated.. all the gear i spent; i can almost buy another bike..

As far as knee braces are concerned, I havnt had a chance to test any other brands - but the POD K700's are absolutely fantastic. I wouldnt leave the house without them on. Makes you ride with confidence, especially after a knee reconstruction. :)

My Klim TekVest is my favorite piece of gear. It wraps around the sides unlike a normal roost protector. And it can double as a floatation device.

I live in Johannesburg South Africa and we are blessed with probably the best weather in the world - summers arent too hot upper 30's maximum (C) thundrestorms in the afternoon and in winter it might drop to freezing or slightly below at night but most winters days it will rise up to 15 or even 20(C) and nice clear skies (it doesnt rain in winter).

My style of riding requires at least 30-40k's riding on tar before I get to any dirt so my kit needs to protect for falls on the highway as well as off road. I think I've found the perfect kit for me:

BMW GS Boots (the most comfortable MX boots I've ever had - got them half price on a clear-out sale:thumbsup:)
KLIM Dakar pants (very nice and comfortable - plus cool in the heat and OK in winter)
BMW Air Shell Jacket (Excellent ventilation in the heat and when you are riding technical terrain, plus it comes with insulated goretex liner which folds up very small that I keep in my hydropack, which I havent used yet, and very high quality armour including a huge thick back protector - very comfortable, plus its a light colour (hi viz actually) that doesnt make it hotter than necessary in the sun - got it second hand at a nice price)
Oneal pump gun knee guards
Uvex Carbon Enduro helmet (super light and comfortable, great visor)
Richa Magma gloves (on road protection but off-road sensitivity and feel)

I would recommend this set up to anyone. Quite expensive I know but I have spent too much time in hospital in the past! I can spend the whole day in this kit quite happily.

- Arai helmet
- Acerbis Cosmos suit
- KLIM PowerXross pullover
- MSR Padded Shorts
- KLIM Dakar pants
- Kali Knee guards
- Sidi Crossfires

+/- a few other items but this usually works for me. I'm a gear whore generally but I find I don't deviate too much from this setup.

I am looking forward to checking out the Husqvarna Enduro Jacket and pant once they are available.

Suomy Spectre-Thanks Mrs Claus
Leatt Club
Leatt Chest Protector - Thanks Mrs Claus
Moose Sahara pants, jersey & gloves
Moose Kidney Belt
Thor Force knee guards (gonna upgrade but not sure which ones yet)
Gaerne SG10

I presently prefer combinations of mostly BMW kit which is excellent quality and proven ATGATT with good removable armour.

BMW Rallye 3 suit for long trips and cooler weather
BMW Airflow 3 suit for warm and hot weather
(Gortex inners for above carried as needed)
BMW Ballistic vest for very hot lightweight riding
BMW GS2 Boots or O'Neal Shorty boots depending on weather and outride
Arai TourX-3 Helmet
GPX Moto Leatt Brace
BMW GS or X gloves
Buff scarf
Custom moulded earplugs with integrated speakers (if needed for long hauls, phone etc) - ear protection is IMPORTANT IMHO

I have 2 bikes (1 in Europe and 1 in the states), and ride a mix of trails, desert (pista), and long highway sections. I just returned from Morocco/Spain on my 950 SE and this is what I have for my kit (which is almost ideal):
Arai X3
Forcfield action shirt, action shorts, L2 back protector and limb tubes.
Traverse jacket/pants
SIDI adventure or Forma MX boots, depending on the trip.

During my 2 month in Africa and Europe, i encountered every conceivable weather variation. Had no issues with anything excepth that the KLIM stuff felt very harsh and a little cheap compared to lets say Rukka.
The nice thing with the action shirt is how easily it fits under anything you wear. If doing lots of trails, drop the jacket and put on a jersey.
Forcefield is probably the most protective of ANY armor out there.

My $.02

D

seen mention of the leatt neck brace here, im tryin to figure out what the difference is between the adventure 3 and the club 2. as well as how comfortable are they when riding?
