• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

What is a Good Tire?

What's a good Entry level Supermoto tire for a light weight bike? I don't plan on taking it to the track, just playing around on the streets and back roads. I've been converting a 430 of mine into a SM and running out of $$ quick:eek: I'm running 17" 3.5 , 4.25 rims

I like the Michelin pilot powers they're reasonably priced and depending how hard you ride you'll get decent miles out of them. Also almost every dealer has them
 
I had Conti SM attack..They was sick, that grip. They can be little bad in rain and that durability is very low, so they was last 3500km, also it is very accurate air pressure.
But i highly recommend
 
I don’t know whether you’ve already bought the tires, but I second Mik-3’s opinion about the Contiattack SM and I also suggest the SM Evo.
I’ve tested both the front and rear SM and the front SM Evo; 150/60 on the rear with a 4.25” rim.
I’ve used them on my 4 stroke, though; I don’t know which tyre could be the best for a bike whose engine brake and power delivery are probably very different. Well, I can say that those Contis are good when you lean, which is pretty important.

Well, I had planned on swapping ignitions with my other 430 that has a new Power Dynamo with 70 watt AC lighting coil but couldn't get the fly wheel off.:excuseme: Was afraid it was going to rip the threads out the flywheel, so I left well enough alone. Now I have no choice but to buck up again for another power dynamo ignition this time I'm going with 100 watt DC so I can have a battery and run the lights with motor off. That said I went cheap this time Shinko stealth ultra soft front 120 and 150 soft rear. The 150 just fit there's less than 10 mm on both sides.

Nothing wrong with cheap lol. If ya ride it hard your gonna burn thru a rear tire bout 2000 miles anyway

If you are just going to putt around on the streets then buys the cheapest tire you can find. The Bridgestone S22's are cheap and have good life.

Now, if you want a tire you can corner with there is really only 2 street legal options out there right now for a 250 lbs supermoto. The Conti SM and the Michelin Power Cup Evo. Both of these tires are specifically designed for ultra light bikes, meaning they get up to ideal operating temperature super quick because the compound and carcass was specifically was designed for this weight category. All other tires, like the Q3's, Pilot Power's or Pirelli's are really designed for +410 lbs bikes, such as the SV650 or similar, and thus when you put these on a 250 lbs supermoto they never really get up to proper operating temps. Will they work for 95% of riders? sure... but you're not getting the best grip out of them when pushing them hard.

Hard to believe it's been a year already. The shinko's work just fine. I've only had street legal for a couple months.
Got a couple good rides in before Something happened and now it won't shift into 1st gear and neutral is between 2nd and 3rd.
It was the original motor from what I can tell has never been apart. Building a different motor now, should be ready in a couple of weeks.
