• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

This forum is for good "How to do things" type information, such as a video on how to check the valves on a 2006 TE250. The Technical Discussions area is for the "what" information such as "does it matter if the numbers are face up or face down on the shims?" (it doesn't).

The theory is to make the 'how' threads separate from the 'what/where/when/why' threads which are posted to more often, so the 'how' threads do not get lost - hopefully an improvement over a bunch of sticky threads.

EDIT - Here is a thread to discuss the Tech Ref section:

I've merged the discussion and reference threads. Try not to make the threads any longer than they need to be. Someone joining up 3 years from now may not care about certain things.

I've seriously thought about having this area only available to logged in members but except for the throttle stop removal I seriously doubt it would be of concern to the non-riding public officials - which is my only concern.

I may add a subforum only available to logged in members at some point, I've been working on a few special items that people may find of interest - but they are still well into the future.

.

Well that did not work.

It is human nature to explore and try new things - and there were far too many people posting things in the Tech Ref that had nothing to do with the how to do things.

It would be simpler if we had fewer forums for the new people I suppose.

In any event I've now set things up so only myself and mods can post in the Tech Ref section and I'll move threads around to there are discussion threads for each thread in this section so questions can be asked.

Just a reminder, because I had permissions incorrect when we switched to the New Cafe Husky - the Tech Ref forum is intended as a collection of the Best of Cafe Husky.

I've changed things back so that only the moderators can post in the Tech Ref forum.
