• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

just out of curiosity What were you trying to accomplish running a 908 on the back that a 606 won't do?

imo a 606 rear and 908 front might make sense if you really wanted the toughness on the front...

personally I hated the 908's and am sticking with 606's for the time being.

The combination was recomended by my friend and mechanic. He runs the 606 front/908 rear on a 950 ADV so maybe extra durability is needed for such a large and powerfull bike? I know he likes to do long fast rides in baja and the such. He's probably not aware of the potential for rubbing on the 610.

Thanks for the heads up about the 908. I may just stick with the 606 front and back.

They probably work better on a larger heavier bike but on the 610 they have almost no sidewall flex.

Yup, I found the bike very hard to turn with a 908 rear, and it was downright scary on CA's grooved freeways.

I also hate the 908 not a good tire, my first ride with it I stopped several times because I thought it was flat!

I am running MT21 up front and T63 in the rear. Good combo for me. The T63 has not chunked out at all yet riding 300 miles fairly aggressive off road and some pavement.
I may have to try one of these, though.
Talk about gnarly!

The BOOB tire. I've read those things are huge, more like a 160 than a 140. I think it's heavier than the 908. Seems there is also some difference between the USA model and the chinese model, but like you I've always wanted to just try one just for the heck of it.

They no longer make the usa model, it was steal belted while the chinese one uses nylon belting.

Other way around now. They're back to being steel belted & made in the USA, also size designation is no longer a 150, but a 140. I've also read that it's a couple pounds lighter than the Chinese made equivalent.

I just did my first 50 miles on a pair of Pirelli Pro FIM Scorpion MC 70 and 54. Worked much better than the Karoos in everything from soft sandy to rocky terrain, with a bit of hard pack too. Didnt find any mud to speak of so dont know how they work in the slop.

And the 140 does scuff the stock muffler.

Anyony try the Prielli XCMH DOT knobbies. They look pretty aggressive, similar to a D606. I've run D606's on another bike and did not like the front.

I've been using the XCMH front for three years. It use to be called MT18.

It is the best aggressive DOT knobbie I can find. It has very still sidewalls and is a pain to mount. With reinforced knobbie base and stiff carcass, it handles pretty good on the road and lasts a long time for a knobbie. Rated for speeds up to 106 mph. Don't run below 12 psi or the bead will unseat because of the stiff carcass.. It's is a very tough tire. Designed for big bore racing machines.

Never tried the rear. I always pair the XCMH with a 606 rear.

Thanks for the response. I actually mounted both the front and rear back around Thanksgiving. Unfortunately there has been so much snow here that I still have not been able to try them out. Will this winter ever end? We received over 60 inches of snow in February alone.

They are absolutely the most agressive DOT tire I have ever found. The front is very similar to the Scorpion Pro (MT83?) that I run on my EXC 450. That is the best tire for my terrain I have found. The rear is more aggresive than the D606; smaller tread blocks and more open space should make this work well in the mud.

Report back on the TKC Continental. Have just done over 2400km on it and it seems to be way better than the Karoo--which by the way Metzeler replaced Free of charge.

Here is what the tyre looks like now.
