What was in your toolkit?

Hi

I am curious, what was included in the tool-kit that came with your bike,

My 09 TE610 kit contained;

3 open ended spanners(8&12mm, 12&13mm, 14&15mm)
1 ring spanner (27mm&15mm)
1 axle spanner (27mm)
2 Allen keys
1 double ended screwdriver
1 Spark plug wrench
1 small wrench (Similar to plug wrench but smaller)
1 hex piece for the axle
and 1 30mm piece of pipe with a bar wielded across one end

Also can anyone help me with what is the smaller plug wrench and the small piece of pipe thing for.

My 08sm was given to me with only the wrench for the rear wheel ?

I think the odd little thing is for the front wheel on the SM......

Here is a picture of the tool kit for my former '08 TE610:

It has pretty much what you listed except for the hex piece for the axle and 2nd allen key.

When I bought George's axle nut replacement, the stock nut and hex piece were given to another rider.

I don't know where the 2nd allen key went.

I also heard that the 30mm pipe tool was for the SM forks/axle.

As to the 'smaller plug wrench', I assumed it was to be used like a ratchet /short extension/socket combo with the round screw driver blade through the small hole providing turning power.

The only tool in the whole collection that I ever carried was the 15/27 ring spanner (what we call a box end wrench); the others seemed just like the cheap Japanese pressed steel tools I used to get with 60s Yamaha and Suzuki motos. Except that the 27mm axle spanner is pretty stout. And I don't know why they included it; the 27mm box end of the ring spanner works better.

Although the std tool kits are renowned for being next to useless if your '09 is anything like my '06 I'd strongly recommend you use the toolkit spark plug spanner. If you try and use any existing sockets you may have when removing the spark plug they tend to be a very tight fit and I've actually broken not one but two spark plugs when using anything other than the toolkit plug spanner! This is not through overtightening or anything daft like that..............you have been warned!!

I'm getting ready for a trip in a couple of weeks, and so I'm starting to go through my toolkit. I have the complete Husky toolkit shown above, and I also carry the following:

- Small socket set, various pliers
- Extra spark plug
- Tube, patch kit, tire irons, pump and CO2
- Zip ties
- Tow strap

I'm in the process of adding:

- Mini jumper cables
- JB Waterweld

I'm looking for suggestions on what else I should add. I've read about quite a few clutch cables breaking on 610's. I'm wondering if I should carry one with me. I'm also wondering about a throttle cable.

Another question I had, was if I wanted to carry only one tube for my SM610, what size should I go for? I'm thinking of either a 5.00/5.30-17 or a 4.50/5.10-17.

Sorry, only the 610s come with tools, unfortunately the other models get nothing.

Tools: whatever it takes to remove the wheels and tires, repair/inflate tubes, replace anything broken on the entire bike and propper plug wrenches for 2 and 4 strokes.

Misc: food, water, wire, zipties, water-weld, tape, buddy-tow, first aid, spark plugs, lighter, smoke charges, quarters for pay phones, dollar bills for the pole dancers in remote bars (bow-chica-bow-wow ), etc.

All this fits in a Camelback Rouge.

Also have a larger Vaude expanding pack for back-country stuff.

oooh...anti MB powder....good stuff and never without! got some as a stocking-stuffer last year at xmas, too.

Try the arnica gel for bruises. It really does help them disappear faster.

I've got my toolkit pretty well dialed in last night. I did go ahead and order a clutch cable to have on hand. I've read of some breakages, and mine was routed incorrectly when I got it, so was a little kinked at one time. Better safe than sorry.

Now I'm moving on to my first aid kit, and these are good recommendations. I used arnica cream when I was hit by an SUV while running (in a crosswalk )! Had some cartiledge damage to the knee and severe bruising, and someone recommended arnica to me. I will check out the GNC arnica gel. I didn't realize it came in gel form, and it seems like it would work a lot better than the messy type I used.
