  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc what wrong with the wr250?

i have an 08 wr 250.

have raced and trail rode it no problems.

what i don,t like is the suspension the 45mm shiver is crap.
the bike is also a bit tall. Black fuel tank is a pain in the arse, clear please.
i don,t mind that it is old school, the bike is bullet proof.

i am in the process of grafting on a yamaha YZ front end, if i can get some decent KYB suspension on it, i will love it again.

Be nice if the japs did a nice two stroke enduro bike!

My 2010 CR 300 has KYBs up front and a Ohlien shock in the rear Bike works about the best you could ask for being what it is Contact zip Ty Racing for help in suspention

I bought a 2011 wr 250 new three months ago for 5000 dollars and I replaced the mikuni with a keihin. Im 44 years old and have rode ktms for the last 10 years and this is my first new bike. The motor makes really good power across the board and the fork and shock do a great job. Im satisafied to save 2000 to 2500 over the ktm. I understand the husky is a little dated but for the average trail rider it doesnt make much difference. Im ktm buddies say they would buy the husky if they were in the market for a new bike.

On my wr250 urrently using 14/45 front/ rear sprockets for a little better manners on the roads- works fine in tighter Eastern enduros. Good reliable platform.

Dirt Drifter,

Good thing you don't really have any high elevations and extreme elevation changes or you would despise the Mikuni as much as I do. Glad it works for you where you are.

Walt
Interesting- using the mikunis on my wr's-'02, '06, '07 at about 250feet to 1500 feet.
Have them working fine so far-lottsa miles.

I never wanted a WR 250. I got the chance to ride a friends and was hooked. It was everything I was looking for in a woods /race bike. I have put a pipe, chain guide, trail tech vapor and sprung it correctly. The jetting that it had off the dealer floor is still in it and the bike tips. I'm glad I got one. Maybe the reason u don't hear about all the cool boltons is because the bike doesn't need them.

ok, so basicly if i bought a new 250 bike today id be getting a bike that is based on 10 year old technology.

the difference between that and my current 250 being the new bike has zero worn out parts and will come with a payment. that said, i like my kaw, i just hate putting new parts on it when i know its not going to get me anywhere as i try to sell it. and it needs constant TLC now in its older age.

hmmmmm.......

thanks for the input guys, really appreciate all the info. i can hold off on jumping on one now.

my biggest concer jumping on a bike, getting a payment and not liking the bike. the last one i rode was an 06 belonging to a friend of mine (way faster then I) and i really didnt care for how heavy it was or for how it handled. the complaints i had about it were the same complaints hwas hearing from others and that worried me. i loved how the engine worked, nice and smooth on the bottom and a good powerfull pull on top. much like my kaw, just in a heavier package :( .

i guess i was thinking they would have updated the chassis since 06.

thanks again for the honest input guys!

That payment you speak about would be a lot less than your cable or cell phone bill

I love my 09 wr250 the only other bike i might prefer to it in some situations is my 00 wr250, I don't understand when some say the clutch is really stiff though, to me the husky clutch is sweet compared to any other clutch even hydro(just cant stand the spongy feel) and I never lube the cable.

^^^ Same here, to me the clutch is fairly easy, much easier than the KX250 I had previously. Also as far as suspension goes, the Husky is better than the KX once I had LTR set it up for me. My KX250 also had suspension set up for me and was never as good as the WR.

I'll second that - I can't believe people think the clutch is heavy! light as a feather with good feel through a cable. I have a 1981 YZ465 if you want to feel a real man clutch, pull that in more than 6 times and your forearm bleeds!

I guess the current WR 250/300's are underrated. I have a couple of hundred miles since new this winter on it and I love it. I bought it cheap (leftover) and did a lot to it. I am going to put a review up this week on what I did and how it has worked.

In the last 12 years I have owned 6 KTM's, a Gas Gas and two Yammie 250F's. I like the Husky best.

My '04 with 50mm FBF TC forks is still competitive with KTM.

It's good for tall guys the new KTM's are really tight seat to pegs.

if u don't mind kickstarting it is a fine bike.....very reliable.
