    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Which is best bang for dollar, 310 4T or 300 WR 2T?

Im still on the hunt for a lighter bike than my 510 TXC and with the recession hitting home the last few months I couldnt afford to spend a cent. Now things are looking up and I was wondering what the power delivery and ride reviews are of these 2 bikes?
Essentally all I want is a super light 4T but dont want to loose to much power.

My first thoughts were the 300WR and possible the 310 TXC.

Any opinions or comparisons appreciated.

My .02 worth:
I had a brief test ride on an '09 WR 300 as well as an '08 TXC 250 with a 310 kit. I was impressed with both bikes. They were easy to handle, had smooth power delivery and the suspension really sucked up the bumps.
The 300 was definitely the livelier of the two. It has some grunt down low and when you get on the pipe it'll get your heart jumping! It felt a little lighter than the 310 possibly because of the motor. I think I could ride the 300 faster through tight trails, but for an extended period, it would take more of my energy.
The 310 had that tractor like feel with a more linear power curve. I could ride this bike all day long and not get worn out. It seems like it pulled through corners well even in a gear high. I like the engine breaking characteristics and the Magura clutch is easy on the hands.
Personally I would go for the 250/310 if you ride tight woods and want the option of the plate. Put a trials tire on this bike and it's virtually unstoppable.
I still ride my '04 TE 510 and like it better than the 310 or the 300. I recently had the front suspension re-done, put on a trials tire and a G2 throttle tube. With those three simple changes, it's a different bike! I'm going to try a 48 tooth sprocket, and would like to get a handle bar set up like those on the newer models.

LOVE my TE310's power, obviously not the same as the TXC, but I'd be on a WR300 if I were riding in the sand all the time.
 
I don't have any experience with the WR300 ( I still have a EXC 200), I did my first "real" ride this weekend on my local trails (I am in NE WI and ride there and the UP of MI, i.e. tight single track and rock piles). The 310 handles better than the 2 smoke, with very little time to adapt to the engine braking and power delivery. The 310 just has way more usable power everywhere. As far as the light weight I am a fat middle aged guy and had no problem picking it up (6 times in fact on Saturday), the main reason I have been hanging on to the 200 was /is its lightweight. I know their are a lot of 09 250's being sold cheap at dealers to make way for the new 250. Big bore 310 kits are much less than the discount on the "new" 09 bikes.

Dubai, yes indeedy.
Only prob is we have a little bit of sand were we ride :)) and we generally chug thru about 100klm of the stuff every friday :)

I can't imagine why you would need a lighter bike for that type of riding...seems your TXC 510 would be perfectly at home in it.
 
I would say a big bore 2 stroke for all the sand if you require light weight. Only issue is of all the 2 bangers the WR300 is probably our poorest offering. It is not as tractable as the KTM or Gas Gas for weekend warriors and it does not have an electric leg.
personally I would get a TE 450 or 510.
